ANTI – Contemporary Art Festival is an international contemporary arts festival presenting site-specific works made for public places. 15.-20.9.2026
POSTS STORIES REELS
Sym Stellium is a live artist and ritualist based in Birmingham, UK, exploring connection and communication on micro/macro levels. Sym’s work revolves around a healing justice praxis – unearthing themes of bodily autonomy, ancestry, chronic illness and time distortion. Using a combination of movement, soundscapes, voice, ritual and meditative practices, Sym attempts to create embodied expressions of the ethereal and break down internalised colonial belief systems. In September this year, Sym performed their work ‘I’m a cow / you’re a b*tch at ANTI Festival in Kuopio, Finland, supported by Cultural Connections, a mobility initiative by the Finnish Institute in the UK and Ireland and the British Embassy in Helsinki. 🖤 ANTI – Contemporary Art Festival celebrated its 25-year history and the future of experimental art, 15–20 September 2026 in Kuopio, Finland. A warm thank you to the festival’s artists, funders, partners, staff and audiences! The festival events took place at the Väinölänniemi beach, the Market Square, the Kotkankallio civil defense shelter, the railway station, the lobby of the Kuopio Museum and in other public spaces in the Kuopio city centre. We reached an audience of around 5,000, and the festival’s participants came from all over Finland as well as from 12 different countries abroad. In addition to the programme themed around the 25th anniversary celebrations, the festival featured three international performance works that explored queer-feminist futures and the impact of queer bodies on public spaces. See you at the next ANTI Festival, 14–19 September 2027! 🖤 ➡ Lue lisää / Read more: antifestival.com 🖤 Video: Kim Saarinen, Modomo Films #antifestival #antifestival2026 #anti25 #kulttuurikuopio #kuopio by @antifestival
Tänään / Today @ Väinölänniemen uimaranta 18:00! 2026 ❤️‍🔥 Keioui Keijaun Thomas (US): Come Hell or High Femmes: The Dolls Rise (esitys / performance) Keioui Keijaun Thomasin sooloprojekti koostuu kolmiosaisesta elokuvasta ja monitaiteellisesta esityksestä. The new solo project by @keioui is a three part film and multimedia performance. This post provides information about the performance. Thomas imagines a time where the dolls – a word that, loosely, means a trans femme so flawless and unbound they are no longer considered real – have survived a mass extinction. Why are dolls the only ones left? Perhaps, it is because trans femmes (often, but not always) are forged in nocturnality, where beauty and intelligence must learn to supersede time and space. Tule kokemaan esitys / Come and experience the performance: 📍 Väinölänniemen uimaranta, Väinölänniemi 26 📍 La / Sat 19.9. 18:00 📍 Kesto / Duration: 45 min 📍Kieli / Language: English Photo: Keioui Keijaun Thomas, Come Hell or High Femmes, Boffo Performance Festival, Fire Island, NY, 2022. What is Untitled Performance Lecture (a gift, redux), Kira O’Reilly? 25 years ago, Kira O’Reilly presented for the first time a performance art of some significance, “Untitled Action for a Bomb Shelter in Kuopio”. Created for the specific site in Kuopio, the action made for and with one person at a time built on a series of earlier works that expanded a vocabulary of formal bodily interventions, drawing from rich, deep and wide lineages of performance art. This year in her performance lecture, O’Reilly will pull on the threads of this legendary work, the webs, knotty tangles and connections to her work now, and that of other artists whose work insists and informs the three decades career of her artmaking now. We will return to the Kotkankallio civil defense shelter in Kuopio with O’Reilly. @untitledbodies 📍Pe / Fri 18.9. 19:00 📍Kotkankallion väestönsuoja, Niiralankatu 32 📍Kieli / Language: English ➡️ Varaa paikkasi / Book your seat: antifestival.com & Linktree Image from Kira O’Reilly’s performance Untitled Action for a Bomb Shelter in Kuopio, ANTI Festival 2003; with Johanna Tuukkanen @jtuukkanen . Mikä on Elämä on väliaikaista / Life is Temporary, Tuomas Laitinen? Esitystaiteilija ja teatteritaiteen tohtori Tuomas Laitisen luentoesitys käsittelee ajatuksia, joita ANTI-festivaalin arkistojen tutkiminen herättää. ANTI-festivaali on tarjonnut 25-vuotisen historiansa aikana tuhansia esityskokemuksia Kuopion kaupunkitilassa ja lähiluonnossa. Mikä näiden esitysten tehtävä on? Mitä niiden katoaminen merkitsee? Tai…katoavatko ne? Luento tuotetaan ANTI-festivaalin, Todellisuuden tutkimuskeskuksen ja Mad House Helsingin uuden Katoavan taiteen kokoelma -yhteistyöhankkeen puitteissa. 🖤 The performance lecture by artist, Doctor of Arts (Theatre and Drama) Tuomas Laitinen deals with thoughts that arise when looking through the ANTI Festival’s archive. During the past 25 years ANTI Festival has offered thousands of performance experiences in the urban space of Kuopio and its surroundings. What is the function of these performances? What does it mean that they vanish? Or… do they vanish? 🖤 📍La / Sat 19.9. 14:30 📍Kuopion museo, Museokatu 1 📍Kieli / Language: English 📍Kesto / Duration: 45 min Luentoesityksen jälkeen Tuomas on mukana Pioneer Panelissa. After presentation Tuomas will be part of Pioneer Panel. 🖤 The presentation is produced in the framework of Collection of Vanishing Art, a new collaboration project between the ANTI Festival, @realityrescen and @madhousehelsinki . Finnish, Swedish, English. Taideteoksen idea on saanut inspiraationsa Essi Kausalaisen Sankaripuistossa 2002 tapahtuneesta Nimetön– teoksesta. 🖤 When heavy thoughts sit on your shoulders, they restrict and sting your chest. Their weight will bend your spine. Heavy thoughts are a cold stone in your palm that doesn’t warm to the touch. stoneless invites you to join our communal artistic act where we leave our stones in Sankaripuisto. The work takes inspiration from Nameless by Essi Kausalainen, an artwork that took place in Sankaripuisto Park at the ANTI Festival in 2002. 🖤 Aalto-yliopiston Taiteen ja median laitoksen opiskelijat toteuttavat paikkasidonnaisia projekteja kaikkien aikojen ensimmäisen ANTI-festivaalin tapahtumapaikoilla. kivetön on yhteisöllinen taideteko ja taideteos. Aalto-yliopiston opiskelijoiden julkisen taiteen projektien kokonaisuus on osa ANTI-festivaalin ja Aalto-yliopiston pitkäkestoista yhteistyötä, jossa festivaali toimii alustana taiteellisen tutkimuksen kurssille.
