Will this controversial solution to the illegal immigration crisis work?

I am back on national TV tonight for ITV’s flagship foreign affairs show- On Assignment.

I went to the poorest border in the EU, it’s facing an immigration crisis! France has a controversial solution.

Trigger warning- this clip has a very sensitive interview.

This report is special to me, because whilst working in the edit room, I heard the news my nanny had passed away.

My last conversation with my Nanny was about my trip to film this report in Mayotte. Like my previous OA I had planned to go back to Northampton and watch it with her.

Sadly I will never get to show her this or any of my future work. RIP

I’ve written more on my reaction to the heartbreaking news on my previous instagram post. But I will also make a video thanking everyone for your supportive comments and speaking on grief.

But today, I want to continue to make her proud and highlight this important story.

Is the media making Nigel Farage bigger than he actually is? 🤔

I put that question to @Adam_brichto — someone who's spent real time pushing back on far-right misinformation, not just reacting to it. 👊

Here's the thing: I hadn't seen anyone else in mainstream media actually examine how the coverage itself helped build Farage's rise. So I went to the people on the front line of that debate — @femi_sorry and @adam_brichto — instead of the usual suspects.

Because right now, British news mostly runs the same playbook: same formats, same soundbites, not enough substance to help people vote on facts instead of fear. 📰

So let's add some substance. Here's what Reform UK is actually proposing — you tell me if it holds up for working class Britain 👇

📌 ~£70bn/year in tax cuts — funded by scrapping net-zero and slashing budgets
📌 Mass deportations + scrapping Indefinite Leave to Remain
📌 More police, more stop-and-search, mandatory minimum sentences
📌 Axing net-zero targets — what happens to green jobs in industrial towns?

📌 Populist promises to "protect workers" sitting next to a fundamentally small-state, deregulatory agenda

Does the media give Nigel Farage, Reform UK and anti-immigration stories more coverage than warranted? 🤔

I asked @femi_sorry due to his work pushing back against misinformation from the far right. 👊

I hadn’t seen another mainstream media presenter or analysis looking at how the media helped build up Farage and his party in quite this way. I wanted to speak directly to people like @femi_sorry and @adam_brichto — people on the front line of the political divide. 🗣️

There aren’t enough people in British news who either think of different ways to inform the public or are allowed the space to tell these stories.

The consequence? Coverage can become pretty much copy and paste — the same formats, with too little analysis or information to help voters make decisions based on reality rather than fear. 📰

With that said, this is my last explainer for @aljazeeraenglish for a while. I’m focusing on documentaries for them now — so stay tuned for those! 🎥👀

Have you experienced this? 😩

You wait in all day for a delivery, only to get a message saying they tried to deliver your parcel but couldn’t… 🤦🏾‍♂️

Yet you were home THE WHOLE TIME! 🏠📦😂

I’m filming a documentary a month, so I genuinely don’t have the time to look into this myself.

But I do want to know… am I the only one this keeps happening to?! 👀

Look at these two comments... 😮😭😡

After making many politics videos, as soon as I speak about Farage and misinformation in the British media, I get a racist comment and a ridiculous one.

A blue checked suit jacket is ‘loud’? My suits are awful? Please! Feel free to dislike the video, but don’t lie on the internet — or about my very nice jacket! 😂

With that said, the point of this post isn’t ‘woe is me’. It’s to show that, despite the video arguing that people should be able to have simple and respectful conversations with people they disagree with, some people still choose to make racist or abusive comments.

The UK’s proscription of Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation has resulted in thousands of people being arrested or facing terrorism-related charges, including many pensioners.

As Teresa says, their goal is simply to stand with Palestine.

Do these pensioners look like terrorists?

I took these pictures myself. I am not a photographer. Let me know your thoughts - are they any good? Do you want me to take more behind the scenes of my films and reports?

The story...

Some of the protesters being arrested were elderly. Their alleged offence? Demonstrating in support of Palestine Action, which the UK government proscribed as a terrorist organisation in 2025.

The ban followed a series of direct-action incidents, including alleged criminal damage at defence and military-related sites. Under UK law, it is now a criminal offence to belong to, invite support for, or publicly express support for the group.

Supporters of the ban argue the law is necessary because of the group's tactics. Critics say it criminalises protest and risks restricting free expression.

I spent the day documenting the arrests and was also given exclusive access to speak with protesters about why they continue to campaign despite the legal consequences.

My full report will be on Al Jazeera this weekend.

So, where do you draw the line? Should groups like Palestine Action be treated as terrorists, or does this go too far? I'm interested in hearing views from all sides—keep it respectful in the comments.
