Before I left Rome I squeezed in a quick visit to an old electricity station they have converted into a museum for some of Romes most ancient archeological finds. I was so amazed at how casual the Romans are with antiquities that at more than 2,000 years old and yet you can just reach out and touch them! (For the record I didn’t but I really wanted to). The juxtaposition between the ages made for some awesome photo ops but I only included a couple because we are about to take off. ❤️❤️ taken in Rome, Italy by @antoniatonia

The last two days in Rome in only 9 photos.

It was tough because I went to the Pantheon and even the Sistine Chapel (yes, it was a godly intervention), and there is A LOT I want to share. But that’s hard to do in a caption, so I’ll save the gory details for my most patient friends.

I will say I’m glad I went to the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain, but I was not prepared for the magic that was the Pantheon. I’ll share more about that experience later.

That night I looked at Rome through different eyes and learned to love the industrial, gritty area I was staying in (which has the best food, by the way).

Then I lost my head (see what I did there…the pic!) and went to the Vatican. I was respectful and didn’t take photos where requested.

And one last parking shot. Because I think this one might be the best.

Can’t wait for my next visit and the opportunity to park wherever the fuck I want. ❤️ taken in Rome, Italy by @antoniatonia

Rome is recognised worldwide for its architecture, history, design and food. But a special shout-out must go to its parking prowess.

Welcome to my special edition of Italian city life.

Parking choices in Rome are equally incredulous and impressive. 🇮🇹😂

OMG. I did it. I always wanted to… and I did it. I saw the real Colosseum.

Yes, there were lots of people, and no, I didn’t go inside. But I genuinely didn’t need to. I stood at entrance 36 and felt the history and significance of this extraordinary place.

And yes, that last photo is me at the Colosseum. That one was kind of a note to myself.

Just to be clear, this isn’t me ticking a box. It’s a signpost in my life, for many different reasons.

I’m feeling very blessed. ❤️ taken in Coliseum - Rome by @antoniatonia

I really liked Santa Margherita. There is a lot to tell but on just the last two days I visited the lovely gardens of Villa Durazzo and accidentally crashed someone’s wedding preparations (Sorry Madeleine and Richard, apparently the villa was close but they let me go in anyway 😬). So I had to visit the chapel and confess. The next day I took the ferry to San Frutuossa. The water is impossibly blue, the beach impossibly tiny and the trek to the castle impossibly scary (shout out to the Italian woman who broke down language barriers by giggling as she just took my hand and dragged me up the stairs). I visited the monastery and thanked god for her, and lit a candle for my dad. I came home for dinner by the marina. I have a similar plan for this time next year. Who wants to come? I might even be brave enough to drag YOU up the rubble like stairs to the castle of nothing. ❤️ taken in Santa Margherita Ligure by @antoniatonia

Milan was nice. After visiting colleagues at Scarp de’ tenis in the loveliest location behind the Caritas church (the bell tolls for lunch every day 😉) I went to Basilica of Sant’Ambrogio. Concentrated in 386 it was a pretty special place to visit. Then to the Duoma and a photo to prove that I was actually there and not ripping photos off the internet. taken in Milan, Italy by @antoniatonia

I loved Scotland. From the architecture, the history, the hairy coos, gorgeous highlands and even the weather. The people are beautiful and I felt very at home. Xx taken in Edinburgh, United Kingdom by @antoniatonia
