today marks one year since i was diagnosed with cancer. i’m a lot more scrawny and i’ve got some new scars, but beating it was the best glow up i could have asked for. happy to be here one year later with some more grit under my beard and cowboy hat. by @antony_b

36 tried to kill me, but i made it to 37. these people carried me on their backs through all of it and i’m very grateful for the love and support i’ve received this year. here’s some photos of some of the worst times which i’ll never post again, beardless and sick and bloated from the chemo, and then some photos of the all-star team of beautiful people and moments i’ve had with them while healing over the last few months. i’m not back to 100% but it felt like i was in some of these photos, at least for a few hours at a time. love you guys. thank you for making me feel like myself again. we’re gonna build something this summer ❤️ #fuckcancer by @antony_b

to my @theniteowlbarbershop family - with a heavy heart, i’m announcing that after 9 years, the next couple of weeks will be my last at the shop.

what a wonderful run it has been. this is where i learned the craft as an apprentice, and spent the next several years managing the historic long branch shop. i cannot thank all of the barbers and clients enough for their support over the years - most notably when this community rallied for me after i was diagnosed with cancer two years ago. it was a level of support and generosity that i will never forget.

i’d like to extend a special moment of gratitude for @brianhurson who brought me into the fold almost a decade ago. you’ve changed my life and given me the tools to take this craft wherever life leads.

i’d also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has sat in the chair at station one for a service with me. the connections we have made over the years were formative to who i am today and it’s been an honour to be a small part of your routines, and also to be trusted during some of the biggest moments of your lives. what a privilege it is to have a job where we can share both laughter, tears and everything in between.

this was not an easy decision to make, but i’m excited about the future. i’ll be back behind a barber chair when i’m recovered from my upcoming surgery. i’ll keep you posted on when and where you can find me, and i’ll have more information on that very soon.

if you’d like to sneak in one more time, my last day will be friday october 16th

heads up! i’m having a surgery later this month, so the next couple of weeks will be the only availability i’ll have until i recover (probably november). this is not cancer-related - i’m still good on that front, i’ll just be out of action for a while!
