Over the last little while, I’ve been busy recording my first ever EP!

It’s strange and exciting to think that something which lived in my head and the pages of my notebook for so long is now coming to life. 🥹

My music has found its way into the studio thanks to the most generous guidance from @davidrsimpsonmusic, funding from @creativescots and @moniackmhor, and the brilliant musicians who shared their talents with me: Alyn Cosker, Katrina Lee, Rachel Wilson, Diljeet Kaur Bhachu, Ryan McBride & David Simpson. It was a joy to record at @glenwoodrecording, @lachunkystudio & RCS.

I can’t wait to share the four tracks we’ve been working hard on - intertwining Vietnamese folk, jazz and classical influences, telling stories connected to my identity and sense of home (not pictured here: me recording the đàn bầu for the first time ever!)

Had a special weekend in Manchester performing my commissioned piano work for @starnhaease’s Tides of Change at @cpxmcr and joining the panel alongside @tra.my.nh ⭐️🎹🎬

Creating this felt very personal - rooted in memories and stories of my dad’s hometown, reflections on diaspora and identity, and feelings of navigating change. Growing up, I never really saw any Vietnamese representation on screen, so being part of this rediscovery and visibility meant a lot.

Big thanks to Tuyet @2ahuynh and the wonderful @starnhaease crew for this opportunity 💗

On the 27th June at U Belong Glasgow: Creative Safety in Industrial Spaces x @scotcivictrust @britpanopticon we have the wonderful An as the host 🎤 🎶

An Trinh (she/her) is a multidisciplinary Vietnamese-Australian creative based in Glasgow, whose practice brings together music, language and a deep interest in community engagement. As a composer and multi-instrumentalist, her work weaves together Vietnamese folk traditions, classical and jazz influences to explore memory, place, migration and identity. With a background in Linguistics, she is particularly interested in the relationship between language, sound and storytelling. An uses her creative practice to reflect on and navigate the complexities of diasporic experience.
