If you told me 4 years ago I would be graduating high school without my dad by my side, I would have said you were crazy. I never expected to see one of the people I love so much be taken from me in an instant. You were full of joy, laughter, perseverance, and living life to the fullest. Anytime you walked in a room, everyone could feel your presence. I miss the dad jokes you would make or your ridiculous singing during long drives and I know I'm not the only one.

Grief is a thing that never goes away. You are taught that it comes in waves and to let yourself feel it. No one ever talks about how it can affect you weeks, months or years later. And if it does, that is perfectly okay. Don't let anyone tell you how you should grieve because everyone has a different path they follow. Just because someone carries it well doesn't mean they don't stay up all night thinking about what they could've done to make sure they were still here.

If you know someone that has experienced a loss, no matter when it was, check in on them. Those who have lost someone tend to try and be strong, to not let anyone see the pain they are hiding, but sometimes we just need a shoulder to lean on. To tell someone about all the amazing things we remember about that person or how we wish we would have had more time with them. No matter what, never take your loved ones for granted. Spend time with them and appreciate the days you have.

I wish there were so many more things you got to do or see. I can accept the fact you are in a better place where pain doesn't exist, but I will always wish you were sitting here next to me instead. I love and miss you so much dad and one day we will be together again🕊️🤍 by @anyah.jean

15 years of my life I have dedicated to dance and on a random Saturday it’s all over. I’ve gained so many friendships, opportunities, mentors, memories, but most of all a family.
