For @kingryan a belt doesn't bring any value but just the commission getting a split. If anything, having a belt these days is only a marketing scheme to market the fighter, and Ryan doesn't need no help to market himself. I see no reason for Ryan to fight for a specific weight class, as long as the fights keep getting sanctioned.

Those alphabet belts inflated themselves, and those belts shouldn't determine which fights need to happen (mandatory). Why play by the rules when boxing is known to be corrupt. Especially after seeing that 112-112 scorecard.

A while back ago I was driving on my way home from work while listening to ESPN 710AM radio.  During a conversation, they brought up how ratings are calculated.  They measure ratings based off “Social Media Metrics”.  The amount of traffic generating conversation leading to advertisement.

Which reminded me this past week regarding the spectacle this past Saturday.  I often see professional boxers and more importantly boxing trainers, having the perspective of the negative impact Jake Paul has had on the sport. The main argument I hear… “He ain’t fighting professional boxers”. To that argument, I understand… but, I would say to hold on to your pitchforks.

You know those boxing media conglomerates you follow, ask them why they attend such events as Jake Paul. They’ll tell you how since the day’s of “KSI vs. Logan Paul”, their own social media metrics have skyrocketed covering them.  In fact, sadly, traffic generating than some of the big PPV fights we have had recently.

Now, just like the “Hunger Games”, the only way the games are played, is if someone is watching. Nobody is forcing you to watch (Which in professional boxing, nobody can force you to fight someone, just simply vacate the belt). As of now, Showtime & DAZN, know someone is watching just like those boxing media conglomerates.

I would say to hold off your “Emotional Currency Pitchforks” on Jake Paul, and judge him as a promoter. That is where the boxing community as a whole should spend their energy.  And if you decide to do so, you would have a hard time arguing that he is a bad promoter as of now given the opportunity he has provided to Amanda Serrano and Ashton Sylve.

Often times when you leave something behind and comeback to it you realize how much you appreciate it what you had and also brings you a greater self awareness.

Being away from boxing gyms, media events, the emotional currency from boxing media outlets, and more importantly the relationships you built overtime during a worldwide pandemic.

Being away from the sport made me realize how neutered boxing is from CRITICAL THINKING. At times, I often realize how boxing is all hands on deck, leaving a void of looking at the sport critically and not being afraid of having access.

With that being said, I'm leaving one of my jobs to go back to cover this sport (Starting June 1st), from the angle of:

"WE DON'T GENTRIFY BOXING".
