My Final for Elements of Advertising Photography Part 2.

Portraits of international students in Henrietta and Rochester New York. Interview excerpts:

Triya Belani
Is a PHD student studying Imaging Sciences at RIT. She is on a student visa and is originally from India she been in the United States for two years.
“So, I feel that people in the community are always interested about knowing my culture … oh, maybe we celebrate certain festivals in certain ways. And what are the traditions like, how [do] things go back at your home? And then I explain mine and, yeah, it’s kind of interesting how people are kind of keen at knowing your things too, and kind of accepting that as well. I like that.”

Jabari Walrond
Is a fourth-year mechatronics major at RIT, he is originally from the Cayman Islands he has been an international student in the United States for eight years.
Jabari: “You don’t really make it work (the 20-hour work week limit for students and not being allowed to work outside of the school). Honestly. We have to make a lot of sacrifices ... a lot of the stuff that I have, I’ve had since boarding school. So just keeping stuff in good condition, knowing what I’ll need and just buying necessities, really, that’s about it … when I go on co-op and you save up your money, that’s when you can really splurge and stuff.”

Euan Seow
Is finishing his fourth-year double majoring in Computer Science and Politics Philosophy and Economics with a minor in Business at the University of Rochester. Euan is Singaporean and was born and raised in Hong Kong where he has the right to permanently abode. He has been studying in the United States for Four years.
“I think … that is the thread of rhetoric of the American dream that I think appeals both to my understanding of the American population and also the people coming into America that like, there’s this idea that like, there is this idea that if you work your best, … you have as good of a chance of succeeding as anyone else.” by @apemaen

My Final for Elements of Advertising Photography Part 1.

Portraits of international students in Henrietta and Rochester New York. Interview excerpts:

Kifekachukwu “Kiffy” Nwosu
Is a third-year year Computer Science major at RIT. She is a U.S. Citizen and was originally born in Nigeria.
“Like there’s so many unspoken rules and like things about courtesy or like even tipping culture, like there’s so much to learn that you’re being immersed into in one year that somebody has had 20 years to immerse themselves. So, I think, people in general should be very understanding, and I think you should be very patient when you see that someone’s not from here, they’re not stupid.”

Pierre Ilias
Is a third-year 3d Digital Design major at RIT on a student visa. He has been studying in the United States for 3 years Pierre was born in and is a citizen of France.
“I think … people also tend to forget … it’s not because I’m in America that I don’t have links somewhere else, or I’m not being impacted by something outside, especially if you’re in the country who is kind of causing all of it. It’s also an extra weird feeling of like, should I really be here right now? I’m not gonna lie, initially I plan[ned] to stay in the US after graduation. [But] I’m really not so sure anymore.”

Taonga Pumulo
Is a fifth-year Computer Engineering Technology major at RIT, he is originally from Zambia Islands he has been an international student in the United States for five years.
“It’s been hard and it gets extremely scary, lonely and exhausting, especially in recent time with everything going on in the world right now. The everyday people I’ve met here make it so much better and easier. Always keep in mind that the love you give makes people feel at home and we all need that sometimes.” by @apemaen

AP Art History- The Grave Stele of Hegeso is my favorite piece of art so far because of the techniques implied. One technique that really stood out to me is the flowing nature of the clothing worn by the two figures. Not only did this strike me for its very life-like composure but also because it takes on a whole new meaning when considering the works like the Peplos Kore. This piece which showed the woman's body being defined by her dress wear, was in a way dehumanizing or invalidating her individuality, here though we see the women’s bodies defining the clothings shape representing, what I think, is a more progressive train of thought.
