The Tube House was lovingly created for this particular family, in an attempt to have Beauty metamorphose into its 8th member and manifest its relationship thru Light ambiances, Architectural functionality and Aesthetic of space, unveiling harmony and several material and form expressions in the day-to-day experience of its human users. It’s the primary core for the development of the perfect human act: to be a family. It is home.

The Tube form on the first floor was conceived to accentuate the transition between the simple but modern geometry of the house and the organic surrounding nature. Emphasis was made in formulating a fun house where activities such as playing, watching a film, swimming, eating or socializing, were kept in the same area contained in the Tube and connected by an interior garden, corridors and a swimming pool.

In order to achieve a Sustainable and more natural way of living, a Bioclimatic Design and a Passive Strategy were conceived. Thermal comfort can be reached by the installation of a Canadian well, a Solar Thermal Collector and a Solar Greenhouse (which is also an interior garden). These three systems are empowered by a Solar Chimney for air extraction. Additionally, the use of Thermal windows and Thermal walls made with straw bale-air chamber-brick, envelope intimates spaces, whereas the public and working areas are contained in the thermal insulated habitable tube. These Strategies will help keep the heat inside the house during the winter and avoid it from entering in the summer. Finally, the water management strategy will be focused on the rainwater harvesting and the sewage water treatment and their use for irrigation.

Casa OOSA
