My social media is filled with people making perfect art. Even accounts teaching beginners. It can be discouraging when it’s something you’re trying to learn, and it feels scary to share with others. I wish more people would show “imperfect” art. Here’s mine.

I drafted this a month before Bear passed. I never got to use it, but I wanted to reclaim it now that we have Denver. Bear is still my lock screen picture. It’s been nearly 11 months since he passed. I miss him every day, but I also can’t imagine life without Denver these days. by @apennilessbear

There’s an epidemic of loneliness and insecurity among men these days. Too many men think they have to be tough, suppress feelings, and be stoic. They fear outward expression of individuality. I fear we’re retreating from the progress we’ve made over the last 20 years. This is fueled by the charlatans making millions off men by hawking supplements, testosterone replacement, workout gear, and tickets to comedy shows and live podcasts.

I hope these men can learn to express individuality, think independently, and provide space to show a range of emotions. by @apennilessbear

When spend so much time on these apps, and we begin to get a distorted view. But what if we could change or view point? What if we shifted our focus to things that matter dear to us. Family, friends, and making core memories. My wife and I may not be “wealthy” by some standards but we’re wealthy by many others. We laugh together, we’re travel buddies, dog owners, and a cool aunt and uncle (if we do say so ourselves). I’m glad I never stuck with paths expected of me, but I wouldn’t have what I have now. by @apennilessbear

It’s been six years this month since I joined the dead dad club. No one prepares you to lose a parent. No one elects you into this club. You’re unceremoniously forced into it. But at least it means I had a dad that made such an impact and still have a wonderful family around me. by @apennilessbear
