Congratulations to Gerard Talampas and his incredible team on a hugely successful Stockton Barrio Fiesta!

Just like that, Barrio Fiesta 2.0 is back after a few years’ hiatus—bigger, stronger, and more vibrant than ever!

I experienced a community renewed and energized. I saw a new generation of young Filipino leaders stepping up with purpose. Most of all, I felt a powerful sense of optimism, energy, and Pinoy Pride throughout the Stockton community—the original hub of the Filipino diaspora.

It truly takes a barangay to plan, organize, and bring to life such a meaningful cultural celebration. Kudos to the entire Barrio Fiesta organizing community, and especially to you, Gerard, for your leadership, vision, passion, and unwavering commitment in making this happen.

You did it! Congratulations, and more power to you and the whole team! Mabuhay ang kulturang Pilipino! 🇵🇭 by @aperezsf

Today, we say goodbye to Tita Pearl — a beloved pillar of the Filipino community whose impact reached far beyond San Francisco and the Bay Area, extending to Southern California, Las Vegas, and even across the Pacific. Her influence touched countless lives and helped shape our community in lasting ways.

Tita Pearl was a woman of many talents, with experience spanning engineering, human resources, entrepreneurship, and more. Yet her true passion was always rooted in service — uplifting others and proudly showcasing the richness of Filipino culture and cuisine.

She played a vital role during the formative years of the Pistahan Parade and Festival and was instrumental in building the Culinary Pavilion into what it is today. With her boundless energy, she also helped reclaim the Balut Eating Contest — transforming it from a spectacle (no more “Fear Factor”) into a celebration of cultural pride and culinary tradition.

I am forever grateful for her mentorship, leadership, and friendship. From the very beginning, she welcomed me with open arms and an open heart, always ready to share her wisdom, her connections, and, of course, a tray of her delicious empanadas. Her generosity knew no bounds.

Her passing leaves an immeasurable void in my heart and in our community. Yet I will always carry forward the example she set — her kindness, her grace, and her unwavering generosity of spirit.

Rest in power, Tita Pearl. We dedicate this year’s PISTAHAN in your honor. Thank you for always showing up, for stepping up, and for being a beacon of love in our community. by @aperezsf

Reflecting on SF Pride 2026! From my front-row seat as a Parade Judge, I soaked in every second of this vibrant, powerful celebration.

Huge love and shoutout to so many friends and community partners who showed up, showed out, and made the parade unforgettable—you all brought the energy and the heart.

Pride is joyful resistance—loud, proud, and unapologetic in the face of hate, injustice, and discrimination. SF Pride is all about love, authenticity, and the freedom to be exactly who we are. What a bold, beautiful reminder of the strength and spirit of our community!…
Happy Pride! 💪🏽❤️🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ by @aperezsf

Proud and gayly honored to stand alongside inspiring community leaders this morning at the Alice B. Toklas Breakfast with Mayor Daniel Lurie as we kick off SF Pride.

Feeling incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve as a Pride Parade judge—my first time—and to help celebrate and uplift the extraordinary creativity, resilience, and voices across our communities. Huge thanks to Marsha Levine from SF Pride and Sister Merry Peter from the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence for this unforgettable front-row experience. With 19,000 marchers, 212 floats, and millions coming together, the energy of Pride is truly unmatched.

If you’re in the parade today, come say hello at the judges’ table near the grandstands (just past 7th and Market)—I’d love to cheer you on!

This year’s theme, “Resistance in Action,” is a powerful reminder that showing up in joy, unity, and authenticity is itself a meaningful act of resistance.

Happy Pride, San Francisco!
