On Sept. 11, 2001, Lauren Manning arrived at the north tower just as the first plane hit. She suffered burns over 82% of her body, and her odds of survival fell below 10%.

Manning, who was a partner at Cantor Fitzgerald at the time, spoke to Annika Pergament about how she overcame her injuries, how the experience reshaped her work and her efforts to honor the 658 colleagues and friends she lost that day. by @aperg

"It's a punch in the gut."
Retired NYPD Inspector Paul McCormack had been a sharp shooter and precinct commander. He worked at Ground Zero after 911 and later lost most of his eyesight. He reacts to the news that city officials knew the air was toxic but concealed that information.
Today his Ground Zero 360 Remembrance exhibition opens at the @nycfiremuseum, bringing together art and artifacts to honor the victims, survivors, and first responders, and to keep their stories alive. It features works by major contemporary artists including Jasper Johns, Jeff Koons, Yoko Ono, James Turrell, Sean Scully, Jenny Saville and others.
It was an honor to hear Paul's story and why he remains committed to keeping its memory alive.

As we approach the 25th anniversary of 9/11, I’m sharing the story of my friend, Lauren Manning. Burned over more than 82 percent of her body, she survived against extraordinary odds and fought her way back to a life she refuses to let that day define. I'm truly grateful that Lauren trusted me to tell her story. 🙏❤️

“Yes, I think he’s a collaborator.”

After comparing Brad Lander to a “concentration camp guard,” GOP candidate @bruceblakemanforgovernor defended his characterization of @brad.lander, citing Lander’s association with Darializa Avila Chevalier whose views on Israel he condemns.

A full-circle moment with my dear friend @aperg @ny1 🧡

Grief is messy, it’s destabilizing, it’s isolating. But somewhere inside all of it, I realized I had a choice — I didn’t want to lose my other children. I didn’t want to lose my husband. I wanted to keep living, because that’s what Penny would want for me.

So I started taking action. Small, intentional steps that gave me back a sense of control in an otherwise uncontrollable time. That’s the heart of Reimagining Grief — five actions to move through loss, not just sit inside it.

Thank you, Annika, for holding this conversation with such care. 🦋

At Mayor Zohran Mamdani's "Rental Ripoff" hearing on Staten Island, tenants shared frustrations over their living conditions with some of Mamdani's housing officials, including Cea Weaver, who is the director of the Mayor's Office to Protect Tenants.

It was the last stop on the administration's five-borough listening tour, where renters spoke out about issues in both private and public housing, calling for accountability from their landlords.

@aperg spoke with Weaver about the steps the administration is taking to address issues raised by tenants at the hearings. Weaver also touched on NYCHA residents' claims that they were not being properly heard at previous hearings. by @aperg

In his final days in office, former Mayor Eric Adams sought to shield Elizabeth Street Garden as NYC parkland, so that it couldn’t be developed into affordable housing.

The garden has sat as a rare nature enclave in one of the busiest parts of Manhattan for decades.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani must now decide whether to honor Adam’s move or press ahead with affordable housing plans as he promised to do so in his mayoral campaign.
