Introducing ÉTÈ x BSW Nov 6th program artist: Aphex Redditor @aphex.redditor is a digital artist and VJ based in Montreal. Inspired by the post-internet art movement of the 2010s, her work examines the ongoing significance of contemporary social media culture. She works predominantly with found images, treating the social landscape of the internet as an endless source of visual and conceptual material. She holds a BFA in Intermedia from Concordia University. She is known for her viral endurance performance piece BedRot (2026), presented at Eastern Bloc gallery, wherein she trained the Instagram Reels algorithm over the course of 24 hours. Her work has been presented in group screenings at various institutions including @worldcreation.studio, @galerie.galerie.web, The Wrong Biennale, and Espacio Odeón in Bogotá. "Inspired by the inherently communal landscape of the internet, I approach my practice with a belief in contribution as a creative act, viewing shared media as a collective resource. My practice embraces the collaborative nature of online culture, focusing on the act of contributing to a shared visual conversation rather than the concept of individual ownership. In working with these images and leveraging their coded meanings, I seek to navigate and interpret contemporary societal structures, exploring how social realities function within a world that is increasingly experienced online. The structure of my work is shaped by the nature of online content itself. Much of my practice revolves around compiling and recontextualizing found media, pulling from an array of sources such as TikToks, memes, internet subcultures, and popular discourse. I engage with these images by editing, remixing, and compiling them to create new, stylized compositions that evoke the heightened experience of consuming digital media." Endless Calendar (2026) print on vinyl, 3 x 4 ft, crudely photoshopped to be inside of the white cube This print series is a re-imagining of the 17th century Dutch Vanitas tradition. The prints portray what the passing of time and the inevitability of death looks like in a digital world where nothing really “dies”. The prints are made on commercial vinyl banners, designed to withstand the test of time, never to biodegrade. Currently on view at the @bootlegger.mag x @___earthtones expo, both online and in person at 2023 Boulevard Saint-Laurent, Montreal by @aphex.redditor

Eastern Bloc @easternblocmtl 55, rue de Louvain ouest, #480, Montreal, Quebec H2N1A4 ***Link to performance livestream in bio*** The performance begins at 7:00 PM on Friday, March 20 and ends at 7:00 PM on Saturday, March 21. There will be a finissage after the performance has concluded between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM on Saturday. For 24 hours, I will remain in a bed installed in the gallery, continuously scrolling through Instagram Reels. The feed from my phone will be projected on a wall directly behind me. The audience will see what I see. The content will change as the algorithm refines what it delivers. A new Instagram account has been created specifically for the piece. The algorithm begins from nothing. Over the course of a single day, I will be unconsciously training it. During BedRot, private actions will be on public display, and imperceptible systems will be brought into view. *The performance will also be livestreamed for those who cannot attend in person. by @aphex.redditor
