~12 years ago I had my first and only Subaru to date. New from @subaruofkennesaw. It had LS460R Bi-Xenon projectors retrofitted, a sport grille, matched interior trim, etc. It was underpowered and had the awful CVT trans, but during #icepocalypse2013 it did awesome! I was out driving around on entirely icy roads no problem.

July 9, 2013: my first factory ordered car! 2014 Mustang GT. I wanted it to be a base model with Recaros and Track Pack. Nothing else. I also got a huge discount unintentionally.

At the time of order, it was agreed on the price as ~$5k off MSRP. I forgot exactly why it was the case, but the dealership in Sandy Springs, GA ended up actually honoring a ~$10k discount, making a $35k factory order car $26k, meaning the dealer lost about $3k on the deal. Wild, but I still have the Buyer’s Order paperwork somewhere showing it.

Because of my employer at the time, I ended up in regular contact with the then-CEO of YearOne. When the Boss 302 Laguna Seca Mustang came out, I saw its back seat delete and knew I had to have that as part of the new car experience. My contact at YearOne was able to source me the OE rear seat delete kit. I had it repainted OE Oxford White to match the outside.

I got a bit too thinly stretched financially and had to sell it, sadly. I did figure out I could sell / trade the ordered Recaros for the awful base seats and pocket about $2k, all while the buying dealer didn’t care? Sure why not. Because I saved so much off MSRP, I still did very well trading it in.

This was definitely better than the 2010 Mustang GT I had (and not just because 5.0 vs 4.6) but still—I prefer how much smaller the New Edge is (1999-2004).

My #flatbro Tundra sold two years ago. I love regular cab trucks, but now with a family, it doesn’t work well. 🤷🏽

This was a rare 5.7/4x4 with 1-owner history too. 🥹

One of my New Edge Mustangs was a 2002 Mineral Grey GT Premium Convertible with the Tremec TR-3650 5-speed manuél trans.

This particular car i came across had some tasteful mods, which iirc included: staggered BBS RK wheels (that I later powdercoated gloss black), cowl hood, exhaust, etc. I also removed the spoiler which IMO works great on the new edge. 🙌🏼 Also note those Bullitt side scoop deletes. 👀

12 years ago today I sold my last Honda Fit. This one was a manual too. Definitely missed.

Headlights were LS460R retrofitted with @morimotolighting halos inside. Super trick. 👌🏻

One of my favorite Mustangs was my 2001 True Blue Bullitt. This car was a magazine editor’s car originally with a crazy past of suspension and drivetrain upgrades including a Paxton Novi 2000 blower and T56 trans swap. It was an absolute beast that sounded like a jet engine.

Back around 2005-2007, I flew from Atlanta to Dallas to buy a hard-to-find 6MT 350Z Track with tasteful upgrades (facelift tail lights, wheels, etc.). The bank sending funds ended up taking most of the day. I then drove it back, stopping in Monroe, LA for the night. I went with the vanity plate “LOUD Z” because of the modified Nismo exhaust.

Sadly, it wasn’t at all what I hoped for and was a big letdown. I ended up selling it locally for (thankfully) not much of a loss.

My favorite daily was the 2008 Honda Element SC that was my first new car. It was fantastic for over 50k miles and two years. I sold it because it was hit by someone and the suspension repair made me realize it would never be the same.

This was my first attempt modifying tail lights—I cut out the round reflector and epoxied in LED pucks intended for a semi trailer. Upon wiring them, the “dim” mode was too bright and had almost no contrast to the “bright” mode. I added some small resistors to the dim circuit and it fixed the issue. If this car isn’t totaled these are probably still out there working fine. 🙌🏼

The SC had darker tail lights than the standard model, and unique headlights that were basically halogen S2000 projectors.
