I post reading suggestions a lot (many of which are repeated in this post), but those are typically focused on individual books and not the authors themselves, so this was a bit different. This is a compilation of some important information from previous posts of mine (or that I have collaborated on), with some other slides added in for good measure. Mainly I wanted to update the percentages for communist nostalgia and add sources for those statistics (see slide 12). This post focuses primarily on Europe, only because I did not have the room to discuss Vietnam, China, Laos, or other communist countries or nations with communist parties (excluding Cambodia). I added a few slides about Mao and one about Afghanistan.

Join us in Harper’s Ferry tomorrow for speeches, song, and solidarity as we honor the legacy of John Brown!

This year is the 167th anniversary of the raid on Harper’s Ferry. John Brown led a 22 man group to seize the federal armory hoping to spark an armed revolt against the racist slavocracy.

The raid wasn’t a success, but a flashpoint in the larger abolitionist movement led by those enslaved, waged by revolutionary tactics and general strikes.
