In 2016, Junya Watanabe’s Spring/Summer collection featured African-inspired designs, including the use of Ankara fabric, which sparked discussions on cultural appropriation. A unique aspect of Watanabe’s collaborations with Carhartt is his approach in 2010, he purchased 100 Carhartt jackets directly from a store and customized them himself, rather than collaborating with the brand’s design team. Junya Watanabe’s Carhartt is a staple in my wardrobe. I genuinely believe his pants are of exceptional quality, characterized by aesthetically pleasing designs and unparalleled comfort. Its minimalist design, including features like a harness-compatible hood and underarm gussets, enhances functionality and comfort during high-intensity pursuits. The jacket’s cultural influence is evident in its name, inspired by the Papsura peak in the Indian Himalayas, reflecting a blend of performance and global mountaineering heritage. Throughout my childhood, I did not exhibit a preference for North Face clothing. However, during the winter months, which are arguably the most favorable season for fashion, my mother consistently included a North Face garment in my school bag due to the uncanny weather conditions. I recall purchasing this jacket due to the hereditary nature of breast cancer within my family. (Also, I felt like Killa Cam back in ‘04) During my childhood, I was informed by my grandmother of her diagnosis, which instilled in me a profound sense of fear and the possibility of losing her. However, she demonstrated remarkable resilience and tenacity in her battle against the disease. This jacket is undoubtedly my preferred choice. Not only does it align with my personal color preference, but it also serves as an ideal garment for my needs, particularly during travel and exposure to diverse weather conditions. I consistently ensure that I have one of these jackets in my possession when inclement weather, such as heavy rainfall or severe storms, is anticipated, thereby eliminating any concerns. by @appraisedmaterial
