The hens! That’s 8 out of 10 double yolks @holbrookpaddockeggs ! This time for triple chocolate brownies for my sister’s birthday being made in our mum’s @mudaustralia mixing bowl. (The bowl now belongs to my daughter but I’m allowed to use it and am extra careful when I do.) #doubleyolks #brownies #mudaustralia by @aprilfuhl

Cradle Mountain! A place so beautiful I feel my concept of beauty has been stretched to include it. A plethora of greens with hits of rust, brown, yellow, grey and - when lucky - vibrant blue skies. Add in the occasional tiny pink flower (or a blue beanie) for fun. Divine. I feared I was becoming immune to waterfalls, lakes, creeks and rivers as we saw so many: tiny trickles of waterfalls cascading down a hillside, hidden by miniature vegetation to boisterous rivers where energy has a sound. All crystal clear. Of course. But on our last morning we squeezed in one more walk - and were rewarded by a gorgeous waterfall which we had entirely to ourselves. Most of the time we had the walks to ourselves. Unhurried and perfect. I haven’t even mentioned rotund wombats so disinterested in humans they graze beside boardwalks. Christmas Eve fun. Made using my mum’s recipe from her falling-apart book. It’s framed and open at the shortbread page. A tiny bit overcooked but still delicious. Japan: our last night. An eclectic selection of images. The paper crane made for us by the cook in the tiny local ramen place where we ate dinner. We were shown a message on his iPhone which stated it was by CNN given as an amulet for safe travels in Japan. This is classic Japan for me: a traditional gift juxtaposed with a modern form of messaging and given with the kindest of hearts. (Excuse the hotel kettle in the background, it’s needed to support the crane as it otherwise can’t stand up).
