join @vitalartsorg for an evening of panel speakers, community sharing + discussion, music and food as we get ready to launch the Bay Area Artist Census (BAAC) – an artist-led project gathering data on the needs and challenges of artists to shape policies and advocate for resources that directly support our ability to live, work and stay in the Bay. come meet, connect with and hear from fellow artists in this conversation where we’ll explore what our realities as artists currently look like, what it means to be an artist in this moment and a vision for a future where our collective needs are met.

As the Mutual Aid Steward of BLACspace Cooperative, Sasha Kelley tends to both public programs & membership relations. Sasha’s work at BLACspace centers on creating engagement opportunities that cultivate authentic relationships, deepening the wealth of our ecosystem. Within their personal creative practice Sasha Kelley uses art, publishing and social engagement to explore the topics of intimacy, collective archives and collaboration with black/brown/queer communities.

Sasha Kelley has exhibited at the Sonoma County Museum, SomArts Cultural Center, and the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive. Their work is featured in the permanent collection at BAMPFA and has been published in Fader, Umber Magazine, The Black Aesthetic III and Black Futures. As an arts professional Sasha Kelley supports artists, organizations and entrepreneurs through the creative process. Sasha Kelley bridges the artist & business mind by bringing their expertise in the realms of the arts, creative production, project management, software, & systems into all of their collaborations.

i’m excited to be repping as an Alameda County fellow for the Bay Area Artist Census with @vitalartsorg ˖ ݁♬⋆

through the BAAC, we’re gathering data and stories on the needs and challenges of Bay Area artists to shape policies and advocate for resources that support our ability to live, work and stay in the Bay — housing, fair wages, healthcare, access to spaces to create and perform, etc.

i’ve spent some time this past year thinking about how i can better connect my creative world and organizing roots (sorta ish not quite exactly gone / never forgotten type activity lol). as a lifelong bay area kid i think getting the chance to talk about this together is so important. and it means a lot to have friends and people i admire joining us that day too :) xoxoxo

🗣️STORYTIME! Earlier this year I got to head write my first show at KML and a bunch of the grannies came out to support (and watch their very own @lasandrei kill it!). At the post-show hang I found them outside @elixirsf not only reveling in each other’s company, but workshopping feet jokes.🦶Fast forward to December and this toe-tally unhinged foot fever dream of an XXXMas show came to fruition, and I could not be more proud and honored to have been part of it.

I’ve been a fan of @grannycartgangstas for years, so these past few months of working on this production has been a literal dream cum true, especially having met majority of them online during the 2020 pandemonium. They’re Bay Area sketch comedy legends yall. And they gave ya gurl the opportunity to not only shit out some of the most absurd material I’ve ever written, but to perform on stage in my first acting gig.

So much gratitude to @mtalgarow for directing the chaos, whose creative visioning took material far beyond I could’ve ever imagined. To Dave in the tech booth and @aureena for tech, props, and co-founding this amazing group. To @vuhnessuh__ and @thisthuy___ for stage managing and keeping us organized. To every one of the grannies and featured artists for being talented funny supportive motherfuckers.

Thanks for coming out to support live comedy and theater. AI could never, and can suck my fat sparkly jingle balls. 🎄

I wrote my first short play and I’m honored to have been selected for Bindlestiff’s Stories High production! “23andMythology” is a journey of self discovery, a celebration of pleasure, our bodies, and the fun and not-so-fun genetic traits we inherit from our ancestors. It’s a raunchy and deeeeeeply silly play. And it opens TONIGHT along with 5 other amazing stories of love, loss, and liberation.

It takes a village to bring stories to life and I have a lot of people to thank:

-I originated the concept behind this play in a sketch I wrote in @killingmylobster Mythed Opportunity show in 2023. Shoutout to that entire writer’s room (@alvinadrianlee @aptly_engineerd @melissa_claire7 @justinlucascomedy and Head Writer @nutelabanerjee ), actors @blaqberrrry @youknowlisahu @imrantheg , director @nikstagram04, and stage manager @indieemmajones for helping me bring a challenging sketch idea to fruition!

-Archie, Clarisse, Sharleen, and René for bringing these characters to life. You all bring the perfect amount of hilarity and sincerity to these roles and it’s so fun to watch yall do what you do. DREAM TEAM ✨

-Melanie for being director extraordinaire! Seriously so amazed by your work and all the thoughtful details you bring to the story. I’m so grateful you were chosen to direct this 💖

-Dave, @robertandroid, and Micah in the tech booth — POP!

welp this should be fun!! many thanks to @killingmylobster for accepting me as a writing fellow. 🥲i have never written sketch comedy before and i am stoked to have access to this kind of education. Going to school every day as a kid felt miserable and if I knew I would be taking classes in my 30s I would have thrown a tantrum. Ok I still throw tantrums but at least now I can expand my lil brain in ways I actually find fun and interesting and wont make me want to sit in the back of the classroom to eat a bag of Doritos in an attempt to stave off boredom. Yes they were always Cool Ranch. anyway, here’s to 2022! 🎉 taken in Fun Times Ahead by @aprilpascua
