I watched the first screener of 'A Proper Christmas' last night and it just settled into me how much I have to be grateful for. So much feels "full circle" at this moment in my life. I am so extremely blessed that I am surrounded by guardian angels who are helping me to begin this new adventure of telling stories here in my hometown and putting them out there into the world. I was not born into a wealthy family, in fact some of my first memories are of living in a trailer with my mom and brother, with my brother and I sharing a bunkbed. As a kid, we couldn't afford dance classes, gymnastics or girl scouts and I was always so jealous of the girls that got to go to these things. In school, I got made fun of for wearing no name brand clothes and shoes. And when I got older, I moved out to LA with no car and $500 in my pocket and one suitcase. I couchsurfed for close to 6 months while I got on my feet. I took busses to/from every audition around LA (or ran if the bus never came.) I traded social media work for acting classes. I have had periods of feast and famine, like so many others in this industry...and when I say feast...I mainly mean, not struggle to pay for things I want versus what I need for a little while. I say all this to say- I never in a million years thought I could make a movie. ME? A whole movie? How could I get the money? It never seemed even close to being fathomable. But somehow, it happened. I truly believe that if you want something bad enough, and you talk about it all the time- the right people will start to listen, and your energy and enthusiasm will light them up too. And you will find your guardian angels. I never, ever thought this could be possible. I still can't believe that I am on this ride...but I am gonna hold on for dear life and soak in every minute of it and pray I'm building something strong, meaningful and lasting. Eternally thankful for all the the beautiful people that helped make this movie a reality. It has been the most challenging, yet most rewarding experience of my life. This story and this experience feels so special. I can’t wait to share it with everyone. These moments and memories are firmly placed in my mind and I am grateful for all of the heart everyone gave. It started in early July 2025 that I decided I was going to make a production company here in Wilmington, NC to film Christmas movies. It was a baby of an idea and I had NO idea what I was getting myself into. That’s probably a good thing. The naïveté helped me be FAR more bold and brazen. I have had countless people help guide me on this journey so far. Countless. Angels in my life that pushed me along, when I most definitely would have been too intimidated or scared to even try this on my own. But I’m thankful for the people that showed me that I could. Well, no one does anything alone, but I have plenty of people that have lifted me up for sure. So here we are, 6 months later to the DAY, of when I first reached out to Nicely to actually get concrete guidance on how to do this. And since then— I wrote a movie pitch, I created a business plan, I pitched many potential investors, I found investors (yay!), I found my core team, I wrote a script (and then I wrote about 5 more drafts of that script), I picked an extremely talented cast, we found amazing locations, we found an incredible crew (that I still can’t believe I was lucky enough to get!), and now… in 10 days, we will begin filming “A Proper Christmas.” The excitement of this feels bittersweet after losing my Dad on Christmas Eve. The timing of his passing just feels so weighted. But I just have to keep telling myself he is still here with me, experiencing everything, seeing everything— just in another form. I cannot even believe what started with just a little idea inspired by my time working at The Cat & Fiddle in Hollywood, CA would have blossomed into an actual movie that I’m seeing come to life. There is so much of me in this movie. There are two characters named after my grandmother, one named after my late best friend’s daughter, a scene I added for my dad, and memories here and there sprinkled in the lines that remind me of family or friends. I hope this is the first of many. I have so many ideas spilling out of me now for the future and I cannot wait to get the chance to make them.
