When the MOTU Origins Blast-Attak figure went on sale, many people started wondering who that mysterious Snake-man was, the one seen defending King Hiss in the middle of a three-front fight.
Now that the full Blast-Attak artwork has been released, I want to share the design of this new character with you.
He's a completely new Snake-man that I proposed as part of a group of new characters.
He has a name and his own backstory, which will be revealed when the time is right.
For now, I just wanted to show you the complete concept.
I'm very grateful to Captain Roy Juarez @manuel_eduardo_caritas who, when we were brainstorming the scene for Blast-Attak, accepted my suggestion to include my new character proposal.

(BTW, I know many of you are observant and will be able to guess which parts were used. Surprise me with your customs, guys!!!)

While wait for the artwork for the new 4-pack "Battle for Subternia" to be officially unveiled by @brucemode , I want to share some notes on two figures I was involved in the creation and design: Aquatican Mer-Warrior and Sepult-Ro Disciple.
After proposing a group of new characters made from existing parts (one of them is the Great Snake-Man that appears on the Blast-Attack cardback), I began developing the idea of designing a marine creature to serve as troops for Mer-Man.
The idea and design stemmed from my fascination with the legendary Gillman from the movie Creature from the Black Lagoon and also from H.P. Lovecraft's novel "The Shadow Over Innsmouth," which features the Deep Ones. Another factor that crossed my mind was that Robert E. Howard, author of Conan, was a pen pal with Lovecraft, and they even shared concepts of Great Old Ones creatures in their respective literary works. And the factor that ties everything together is the idea that He-Man is a Conan adapted for those of us who were kids in the '80s, if you think about it that way.
That's how what I call "The Rakashian Ones" came about—troops under the command of the Lord of the Sea of Rakash. When considering the parts, only two would require new tooling: the head and a spear, while the rest of the figure would be composed of existing parts (as you can see in the second image). Knowing that I had plenty of options for the limbs due to all the figures already on sale, for the torso I wanted a piece that was organic, that showed the texture of a marine creature (like the Gillman), and not just choose a common human torso and just add a harness. The Kobra-Khan torso seemed like the right choice because parts of its sculpt could be used to highlight new elements simply with paint deco.
Furthermore, that type of body combined well with the idea of a flattened and wide head that I designed, without a neck, similar to Tung Lashor's. As you will notice, from that first design to the final product there were some design changes (head and boots), although the main idea of combining parts remained true to my initial concept, including one of the color options I proposed.(continue in comments.) by @aprostudio_

A compilation of the character illustrations I created under the supervision of art directors @manuel_eduardo_caritas and @brucemode for the frontcards of the Origins line already released figures.

We'll soon be showcasing, along with Bruce, the artwork for Expand-Or, which was released a few days ago.

I Illustrated more artwork for the Origins line, but you'll have to wait until those figures are released (some of which are highly requested by fans ;)

Since the Origins figure was released a few days ago, I wanted to share some design notes about Dragstor MOTU Origins artwork.
When I started developing this illustration, among the various options presented, one emerged that depicted Dragstor's birth.The idea was to place him in a laboratory inside the Fright Zone with several elements taken from the minicomic "The Warrior Machine."
The transformation sequence into his Action Feature form is based on vintage packaging artwork by the great Errol McCarthy, which in turn served as the starting point for the cardback scene where Dragstor charges at Rattlor and Tung Lashor, although this time shown from a different perspective, revealing Dragstor's swift exit from the laboratory inside the Fright Zone.
A curious element was finding that small, running lizard that appears in the vintage artwork running alongside our character. When it came to depicting this creature on one side of the packaging, a question arose: was this lizard a cyborg with wheels, or did it run so fast its legs were invisible? In the original reference, it wasn't so clear, and the idea of a cyborg lizard wasn't so far-fetched, knowing that cyborg dinosaurs existed in Preternia. Ultimately, the idea of a very fast lizard was chosen, and since it didn't have a name, when naming the layer in the file I was working on, I named it "Speed-O-Lizard." (continue in comments)
