Today Abkhazia celebrates 30th anniversary of Victory and Independence.

On September 30th 1993 Abkhaz army managed to regain control over the whole territory of the Republic and expel the occupation troops of the State Council of Georgia.

30 years should be enough to admit the defeat, to acknowledge the mistakes of your predecessors. Georgia, it’s time to recognise georgian military attack against Abkhazians!

The whole “we should forgive each other and live happily” context is rather “utopistic”, to say the least, considering current policies of georgian government.

Georgia has lost every chance to keep Abkhazia as part of its territories: in both peaceful and violent ways.

The sooner you realize that "Georgian dream" of the annexation of Abkhazia will never come true and recognize our independence, the sooner peace will come to our region.

“We have always lived as brothers and sisters, we were never the enemies”

Oh yeah, we hear that a lot. Let me introduce you to Zviad Gamsakhurdia, the first president of Georgia, a famous “human rights activist” giving a very “inspiring” speech, being applauded by hundreds and supported by thousands.

At that exact time, the Georgian nationalistic movement “Georgia for Georgians” arose. At that exact time, the delusional “hypothesis” that today’s Abkhazians (apsuaa) arrived in Transcaucasia only in the 17th century and ousted the real Abkhazians (abkhazeti) was revived.

Apparently, Georgians took the words of their leader “don’t listen to anybody who tries to present the truth in a different way” a little too literally. So literally, that they still deny any opposing opinions, even from their fellow Georgian historians. This one-hell-of-a-theory was planted and became a weed. And it’s still blooming and thriving.

I know you will never even listen to anything a young abkhaz woman has to say. So let me quote Ucha Nanuashvilli, a former ombudsman of Georgia:
“How true is our history theory..about settlement of Abkhaz people in 16th century and whether the “real abkhaz people” are Georgians and Apsua are a different nation who have done so much wrong...If abkhaz are guests for us who “live on our holy land and should be grateful because they are alive..”, and translation of the Bible in abkhazian is unacceptable for many people and if we think that abkhaz people are Georgians in fact and Abkhaz nation does not exist at all...Maybe we should find out who burnt state archive and scientific-research institute in Sukhumi during the war..Let us confess what we have done to save Abkhaz language and culture”.

May 21, 2023, Sukhum, Abkhazia. Day of Remembrance of the victims of the Russian-Caucasian War.

We will never forget…

“Дорогой Шарах, видел ли ты когда-нибудь, как плачут вместе старики и дети? Если не слышал – не дай бог тебе это услышать. Нет ничего на свете страшнее этого. Как только наши горы выдержали, не рухнули, услышав это! Как только все наши ручьи и реки не ста- ли солеными от слез, пролитых в тот день!”.

Common origins, common language and a common heartbreaking tragedy.

Mukhadzhirism- a black page in the history of the Abkhaz-Adyghe people.

Ottoman archives show nearly 1 million migrants entering their land from the Caucasus only by 1879, with nearly half of them dying on the shores as a result of diseases

According to various sources, from 500,000 to a million of Abkhazians live outside their historical homeland today. The largest Abkhazian diaspora lives in Turkey, as well as in Jordan, Syria, Egypt, Europe, the USA and Canada - there are about 60 settlement countries in total.

Our mountains remember. Our lands remember. Black Sea remembers. We remember and we will never forget. We hope that one day all of our sisters and brothers, born and raised so far from their homes, will be able to return to their beautiful motherland. Amen. taken in Abkhazia by @apsny.pro

Peace cannot be kept by force...

Today, on the international day of peace, the word "peace" seems out of place. Every day we hear more and more news that take away more and more hope for a brighter future. Especially, when you are trying to plan this bright future in a country with a frozen conflict.

For many years now, on my birthday,I have been making the same (slightly childish) wish- let there be peace all over the world. But now it seems that neither God nor the Universe is able to resist the evil created by human hands.

It is scary to realize that today peace is still a luxury. And it’s even scarier to realize that someone agrees with such a world order.

But still, I am a believer, so today I will pray: Lord Almighty, grant peace to this world, protection to innocent people, tranquillity to the long suffering Abkhazian nation. And punish all the aggressors, from the men in suits who make decisions to those who agree with them. Amen.

August 14. The day, that divided our lives in two parts: before and after. The day, when we had to take up arms to defend our homes. The day, which led to 413-day long bloodshed and took away thousands of innocent lives from both sides. The day, when Georgian authorities started the war. The day, that we will never forget.

This video is dedicated to the memory of the sons and daughters of Abkhazia, who sacrificed their lives defending their motherland.

One day, we will wake up in the world, where modern Georgian government recognises the terrible mistakes of its ancestors. Until then, we will keep on fighting propagandistic lies and spreading the truth about the conflict.

Long live the Republic of Abkhazia. Amen.

Corrupted and politicized modern international system has a tendency to forget the chronology of events.

It highlights one part of the problem, convenient to its political course, and completely ignores losses and tragedies of the real victims of the conflict- in our case, ordinary south-Ossetian civilians.

Dear people of South Ossetia, even if it seems like the whole world forgot about your pain, we, people of Abkhazia, will always share it with you. We hope and pray that your long-suffering motherland finds peace and justice one day. We remember.

P.S: swipe to the left to read the excerpts from HRW report on the events of august 2008.

The II World War directly affected every republic of the USSR, Including Abkhazia. 55 thousand sons and daughters of Abkhazia went to the front, more than 17 thousand of them did not return home.

Today we celebrate The Victory day, a holiday that commemorates the victory over Nazi Germany. Unfortunately, the topic of this sacred holiday has become the subject of political speculation and propaganda. It is very important to remember the true meaning of this day- to honor the memory of the victims of the war, remember all the horrors of these times, because what is forgotten can be repeated.

This post is dedicated to Mary Avidzba, a pilot from Abkhazia, who was awarded with the Medal of the Great Patriotic War of the 1st and 2nd degrees.

Mary was born and raised in Sukhum. She graduated from Sukhumi Aero Club and Batai Flight School, and in 1939 became a cadet of the Military Medical Academy in Leningrad. After the outbreak of the war, she was accepted as a volunteer to the Red Army. She took part in the defense of the Caucasus, the liberation of the Crimea, Belarus, Poland, and the defeat of the enemy in Germany.

Mary was a member of a famous team of female pilots, known as the "night witches". During the hostilities, Mary Avidzba made 477 sorties, dropped 63 thousand kilograms of deadly cargo on the enemy.

In 1944, Mary Avidzba's plane was shot down by the enemy. By a miracle, she survived, but received a severe spinal injury, which she hid until the very end of the war in order to remain on the battlefield.

After the end of the Second World War, Avidzba was engaged in public activities: she was a deputy of the Supreme Council of Abkhazia, worked on patriotic education of young people. Mary Avidzba died at the age of 69. Her name has remained forever in the history of Abkhazia.

Next posts will be dedicated to the interviews of authoritative politicians and historians, respected both in Georgia and Abkhazia

Interview of Georgi Anchabadze, doctor of historical sciences, professor of Ilia State University (Tbilisi) to “Echo Kavkaza”: "It's always better to know the truth"

“..I don't teach the history of Abkhazia in Georgian universities. Unfortunately, it is not taught there. But I often have meetings with different groups of Georgian youth. They ask questions about the origins of Abkhazians, about the history of Georgian-Abkhaz relations. They heard two mutually exclusive points of view. The first is that Abkhazians are the autochthonous population of Abkhazia, the second is that the Abkhazians are the descendants of the mountaineers who moved not so long ago from the North Caucasus to the territory of Abkhazia and took the name of the local Georgian tribe. The author of this "theory",and I take this word in quotation marks, is Georgian literary scholar Ingorokva, who in the middle of the XX century published a book where he stated that modern Abkhazians are not historical Abkhazians at all. Before him, no one in Georgia doubted that historical Abkhazians were the direct ancestors of modern Abkhazians, and that their language was the Abkhaz language. Many Georgians still believe the theory of Ingorokva, even though there have been constant references to Abkhazia and the country of the Abkhaz in Georgian sources since the V century.

In general, I must say that Ingorokva interpreted the data of written sources quite freely, at his discretion. He has many works that are not mentioned anywhere today, because they are completely far from the historical truth. I think it's always better to know the truth. Both Abkhazians and Georgians need the real history. Even if this history contradicts some goals of the informational war, which I do not respect by any means...”

P.S: original interview is in Russian language (in the comments). The translation was made by the admin of this page. You are free to point out any mistakes in authenticity of the translation.
