On September 23rd we hosted our semesterly Partnership Advisory Council Meeting, welcoming school district leaders from across the region for a day of meaningful exchange.

We shared program updates, presented data on how students are prepared and how they are performing and most importantly we took time to listen to our district leaders about their needs. These insights help share are curriculum, field experiences and ensure our graduates are fully prepared on day one in the classroom.

We are grateful for these partnerships as they help strengthen our programs and help benefit the student in our communities! by @apsueduc

"The hands-on experiences, supportive professors, and opportunities to work directly with students helped me connect what I was learning in the classroom to what I would eventually do as a teacher."
— Savanna Miles ('26), K-2 Comprehensive Developmental Classroom Teacher

Savanna's journey through APSU's Special Education program shows exactly what makes our Eriksson College of Education special: real classroom experience, mentorship from caring faculty, and a launchpad into a career where you truly change lives.

There's a huge need for special education teachers right now — and our graduates are ready to meet it. 🎓

Meet Ms. Brenda Gibson 👩‍🏫

This West Tennessee technology coach and STEM teacher — and Austin Peay M.A.Ed. in Educational Leadership Studies alumna — recently received a surprise visit from Dr. Hanrui He, Dr. Erica Boone, and Kevin Fee of the Eriksson College of Education.

The reason? A $2,000 check for her project: "Future Me" STEM Career Exploration project at Dyersburg Intermediate School.

Students will rotate through career-based stations using digital microscopes, robotics kits, anemometers, and more, investigating like real engineers, scientists, and medical professionals. Each student earns stamps in a STEM Passport as they complete hands-on challenges and written reflections.

Ms. Gibson is one of three rural Tennessee educators receiving GOVing Tuesday grants made possible by @apsualumni this year. One more surprise to go. 🎉 Four people are smiling while standing in an office setting. Two individuals in the center are holding a large check made out to "Brenda Gibson" for two thousand dollars, from Austin Peay State University. by @apsueduc
