Timberland’s field boot has two origin stories depending on where you grew up. Beef and broccoli, that dark brown and forest green, straight out the takeout container. Mac and cheese, that wheat and cream, the color of a Sunday plate. Two colorways, two arguments, one boot that’s been on feet since before either of us could tie our own laces. No wrong answer here. Just a way to tell who you run with.
Drop your pick in the comments. Beef and broccoli or mac and cheese?

Peace to our way of life.

September 13, 1994. A baby stares into the camera on the cover of Ready to Die. Biggie’s opening statement, told front to back, birth to death, in one record. September 13, 1996. Two years later to the day, Tupac takes his last photo. Suge Knight beside him, hours from being gone. Same date. Different coast. One era closing while another had already been born. We sit with that math every year, some things aren’t coincidence. Where were you when you first heard either one?

Everyone who was around at that time has a 9/11 story, here’s mine. I remember that day, my pops woke me up saying a plane had just crashed into one of the “Twin Towers,” as we called them. I’d had a usual long night hanging out, so it was hard to really grasp the situation at first, but by the time I walked into the living room, everyone was already glued to the news. Us and the world didn’t understand what was happening yet, it just seemed like some kind of freak accident. I’ll never forget watching the broadcast when suddenly a second plane hit the other tower, and I think that’s the moment we all realized something much bigger was happening. I still get goosebumps writing this, the memory and the emotions are that vivid. I’ll also never forget standing out front of the crib on 111th St and 37th Ave in Corona, Queens, watching the smoke rise from the city. R.I.P. to everyone we lost that day, and salute to all the unsung heroes of that fateful morning. Share your 9/11 story below.

Some things get preserved because somebody thought they mattered before anybody else did. A manual meant for one purpose ends up meaning something else entirely decades later. That’s the front and back graphic on this piece. Diagrams built to teach mechanics, now living as art on a shirt. Pulled from a deadstock Mac 10 handbook sitting in the APT.4B archive, gifted to us by @aarashid.
Nas also flipped the perspective on “I Gave You Power.” and gave the object a voice instead of a body count. Double layered. Long sleeve tucked inside short sleeve. Built the same way the concept works, one layer holding another.
What’s something from your archive that found a second life?

Peace to our way of life.
