Since starting my practice way back in 2011, it feels like all I have thought about at work, nearly everyday, was linked back to payment. The tedious balance of doing our best job but worrying if we billed enough codes, if we charged enough for that cash pay service, if Medicare was going to cut our rates again. All we want to do everyday is help make people move and feel better. I don’t know about you, but I just want to walk in and provide every patient everything they need to get better. I want them to have it all. But I do also want to get paid enough to pay the light bill at the end of the month, and give my staff raises, and say yes to that amazing new equipment.

If you are like me and want to see payment reform for rehab in Minnesota, join me at the first ever MN Rehab Therapy Forum on October 29th in Stillwater. Go to https://mnapta.org/events/mn-rehab-payment-forum/ to register today!

Join APTA Vice President of Government Affairs Justin Elliott and AOTA Manager of Reimbursement and Regulatory Affairs, along with many of our peers from PT, OT, and speech as we learn and plan how to improve
our payment together state wide.

See you there!

Our PT Code of Ethics guides us to work in probono capacity as a Professional to serve our community.

Darren and I, fellow APTA MN members, gave 6 hours on Saturday doing evaluations and treatment to uninsured, unhoused, and under insured residents in Rochester along with 40+ other PMR professionals.

And what did we learn- there are so so many people in the world struggling alone with injury and pain, knowingly unable to afford the care they need.
A woman I co-evaluated with a Mayo Clinic PMR DO was found on a handheld ultrasound scan to have had a supraspinatous tear which occurred from a fall last December onto an outstretched hand. She had been in severe pain since. She demonstrated a pendulum exercise that she learned from her son who learned it from Facebook. It had not worked, but she trying on her own to heal.

In one hour visit we had assessed, educated, provide manual mobilizations, taught her exercises, and kinesiotaped her up. She was completely now pain free and left with Theraband, a sheet of exercises and voltaren gel. She was smiling ear to ear and could not give us enough Gracias as she left. She would benefit from more visits, but she won’t be able to go. We know that and did all we could for her in that hour.

This clinic was organized by passionate volunteer healthcare providers. Can you organize one in your community? So many people need us that will never walk in our traditional healthcare doors, until it is too late. by @aptamn_pres

As I reflect on our achievements this legislative session, I think the momentum started with our successful #mnptdoh.

👉🏻 Check out this PT Day on the Hill debrief with Denzel -A student perspective!

I can’t agree more with Denzel that Day on the Hill should be required for all for our profession to truly move forward in MN! Clinic Leaders and school staff — start planning now to give the morning or day off for you students, PT’s and PTA’s to join us next February at DOH! It will give them the professional excitement you want, and give our profession the pivot point we need!

I have always made it a priority, will you? by @aptamn_pres

📣 The Governor signed the Scope and Licensing Bill, HF 3825, which includes our PTA Language and the dry needling language into law today, May 27, 2026!

🎉 The new updates to the PT Practice Act modernize statutory language while reinforcing patient safety, PT accountability, and collaborative care delivery. The changes maintain current supervision requirements while improving clarity, consistency, and access to care.

👉 Chapter 115 and here is the link: https://www.revisor.mn.gov/laws/2026/0/Session+Law/Chapter/115/. The PT language is still all of Article 10 and the dry needling language is Article 1, Sec. 26.

Join me in celebrating the end of an 18 year gap in advancing our practice- this is just the beginning of amazing progress in Minnesota!

Keep an eye on MNAPTA.org for implementation updates.
