POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Back from our summer break.
We saw the sun glittering in streams, sleepily rising above the mountains and blazing as it set again. We saw electric silver flashes across the sky during fierce storms, thousands of stars in a black night, double rainbows above the highway.
Being a lighting designer means learning quite a few lessons in humility. Perhaps not consciously, but you strive for something while at the same time sensing a limit. You can create your most beautiful work, your absolute-most-beautiful work, make hundreds of sketches, spend months or even years researching it, and still, every day, you experience that nature has already won the gold medal.
As a lighting designer, you simply cannot be concerned with surpassing it. At most, you can play with the principles of nature.
And playing works best when it happens spontaneously.
So we watched the eclipse from the roof of our studio with our children. And suddenly we remembered the box where we keep the leftover pieces of dichroic glass from our production. (Too small to make anything else with, too beautiful to throw away.)
At the height of the eclipse, we held the glass up into the sunlight.
Each little piece of glass broke and reflected the sunlight in different colours onto the ceiling.
Dozens of coloured crescents. Dancing children.
Happy to have been allowed to play along. 🌙 taken in NRE-terrein by @aptumlighting

Still going strong: Lloop

The Lloop lamp has been part of the Vij5 collection since 2009. We’ve enjoyed working with Nathan & Tineke @aptumlighting for many years, not least because we share the same passion for combining design with entrepreneurship.

What makes Lloop special is not only that it is easy to adjust in height. Thanks to its simple, understated shape, it somehow feels at home in almost any interior.

The height is adjusted with the wooden spool that comes with the lamp. It creates a loop in the cable, which you can carefully slide larger or smaller: a large loop makes the lamp hang higher, a small loop makes it hang lower.

In this way, function becomes part of the design — and the other way around. Simple, visible and without any hidden technology. A strong idea that still works, and therefore a true Vij5 classic.

Lloop is available in countless colour combinations for the lampshade and cable. With the online configurator, you can easily create your own version — temporarily with 20% anniversary discount until 30 June!

Last weekend, our workshop became a cosmic stage where the sun played hide-and-seek behind the moon, and our disco ball scattered miniature eclipses all around. Each glowing crescent reminded us that light is a precious gift—fleeting, but forever inspiring. ☀️🌙 🌒
Our newest design, Chromatrix, shimmers on the wall, reflecting the same spirit of wonder and rhythm.✨
To work with light is to work with time. To follow its rhythms, both natural and crafted.
To be reminded — even in the most technical work — that light is poetry. ☀️🌙🪩
