L🌿 BAC2026 – 3rd PLACE | AFRICA 🇹🇿

🏆 Cape Kabogo, Lake Tanganyika, Tanzania
💧 Beginner-friendly Level
🤝 Sponsored by AQUAEL

This 162-liter Biotope Aquarium recreates a dynamic shoreline habitat of Cape Kabogo, Lake Tanganyika, with a particular focus on the fascinating territorial and breeding behaviour of Lamprologus callipterus. 🐟

The aquarium features a striking transition between a large rock formation and a field of smaller rubble, reflecting the rocky shoreline of Lake Tanganyika. A sandy depression at the centre contains a dense bed of authentic Neothauma tanganyicense shells.

🐚 The shell bed is the behavioural focal point of the aquarium. A large male Lamprologus callipterus continuously rearranges the shells to establish and maintain his breeding territory, while females and Telmatochromis vittatus move among the rocks, crevices and shell bed.

The combination of rocks, sand and shells creates distinct territories, shelters and ecological niches, allowing the inhabitants to display natural habitat use and territorial behaviour.

🐟 Fish:
Lamprologus callipterus
Telmatochromis vittatus

💧 Water:
26°C • pH 8.0 • Clear water • Slow flow

👏 Congratulations to Rens van Duren for this fascinating recreation of a Lake Tanganyika microhabitat!

🎉🏆 The winners of the BAC 2026 contest have been announced! 🌿🐟

The official results of the 7th edition of the BIOTOPE AQUARIUM Contest have been announced – an international competition dedicated to discovering, documenting and recreating natural aquatic habitats.

🌎 8 categories • 24 winners • participants from around the world

BAC is about more than just aquascaping. Above all, it is about discovering real aquatic ecosystems, documenting biotopes in nature (BIN) and recreating them as faithfully as possible in the form of biotope aquariums (BAM).

Each project combines observation of nature, scientific knowledge, responsible aquaristics and the creator’s incredible passion. 💧🌿

As AQUAEL, we are proud to support BAC2026 and initiatives that help promote knowledge about aquatic ecosystems, responsible aquaristics and biodiversity conservation. 🐟🌎

This year, we also had the pleasure of sponsoring the Africa category.

Congratulations to all participants, and especially to the 24 winners of this year’s edition! 👏🏆

Aquael Optiset 240 innan uppstart!

🌡️ A temperature that adapts to the day and night cycle ☀️🌙

Ultra Heater Day&Night allows you to recreate natural daily temperature changes in your aquarium. When the light level decreases, the sensitive sensor activates night mode and the water gradually cools down to the set night temperature. As daylight returns, the water gradually warms up to the set daytime temperature 🐠

🎯 The electronic thermostat operates with an accuracy of ±0.25°C, while the Smart Heating System ensures smooth heating and helps reduce power consumption without compromising heating efficiency.

🔒 The shatter-resistant housing does not heat up, while the heater distributes heat evenly throughout the aquarium.

💧 Available in six power variants: 25, 50, 75, 100, 150 and 200 W, for aquariums from 10 to 200 l, depending on the model.
