Time for fish ✨️

With my newest aquascape, I wanted to ensure that the cycle was nice and balanced before adding fish! So I waited for about 2 months and now we can finally add fish to bring this tank to life!!

From the start of this tank I wanted to add a rarely seen fish, the rainbow shiner. This fish has always been on my bucket list because they are so colorful and unique 😍

I knew my favorite fish store @aquariumarts would be able to source them, along with some hillstream loaches and amano shrimp ❤️

Aquarium arts has been in the fish game for over 40 years 🔥 if you are looking for a specific fish, plant or piece of equipment go check them out! I couldnt recommend them enough!

As always I hope you are having a Fish-tastic Friday! Remember to stay positive and be sure to tell someone you love them today!

Our Red Sea reef has been quietly thriving 🌊🐠 and it was time for an update. From a super-happy gorgonian that looks almost soft-coral–like, to SPS growth everywhere — monti digitata, speciosa, and Fiji pink birdsnest all growing in beautifully. 🌸✨

And somehow, the biggest show-stealer? A ridiculously healthy green star polyp stealing the spotlight. After a full year of ups, downs, algae phases, and lessons learned, this tank is officially mature and looking incredible.

SPS SUDDENLY DYING!!

If you are newer to keeping SPS corals this could be the reason you are struggling to keep them!!

Over the years we have found there to be a common misunderstanding of how corals really get their nutrition. Many hobbyists think they are directly consuming nitrate and phosphate to grow but that's not quite the case. Yes, we need to measure nitrate and phosphate but that's not really what determines if the corals are getting enough nutrition. Corals are collecting bacteria and various planktons out of the water. The bacteria are consuming Nitrate and Phosphate then being consumed by corals, but if we don't provide everything the microfauna need, they can have a tough time sustaining proper populations in our aquariums. This is why we like Tropic Marin Reef Actif as it helps to boost those populations and aid corals in having the proper nutrition to them. SPS are the body builders of the ocean. We can't expect body builder to lift incredibly heavy weights without the proper nutrition in the right quantities. Otherwise, they work super hard and never grow. The same applies for high light corals. They need to have nutrition they can actually take up.

Fire Honey Gouramis!

These are a variant of the dwarf honey gourami that have brilliant yellow and orange coloration. We have really enjoyed these in the shop and the few people who have scooped some up in the last few weeks have added them to their community tanks easily. They are an omnivore that is easy to care for and does best in planted aquariums. These are a great fish to keep with tetras, rasboras, and other small community fish. Visit us 7 days a week in Mesa Arizona!

MAGMA FAIRY WRASSE SOLD OUT

We already gave all of these guys away on insane livestock special, but I just couldn't help getting this video up anyways. These are truly a special fish that you don't see very often. We first started getting these about a year ago although they were pretty recently discovered only about a decade ago. We have found these to be pretty hardy for a and they have quite a unique color. They transition from a very bright red face to an orange tail but the separation in color doesn't really have a distinct point of change which gives the fish this interesting illusion as it swims and your eyes try to figure out what colors they are seeing. Overall, I have really enjoyed having these fish in the shop and I'm looking to source a few more soon!

RARE FISH ALERT!!

We haven't seen masked swallowtail angelfish in Quite some time! Right now, we have a limited quantity of both males and females available at the shop. What makes these fish so desirable is that they are generally considered to be one of the few reef safe angelfish that we typically find in the hobby. This is because they are mainly a plankton eater found in a bit deeper water, so they aren't going to be looking at your corals as a food source quite as much. This fish is much harder to come by than the typical swallowtail angelfish as it is typically found in the northern Philippines up to Japan and is really only seen seasonally.

Whether you are just getting started in the Aquarium Hobby or ready for a rare fish like this, make sure to follow Aquarium Arts for more videos like these and visit us in Mesa Arizona!

Looking for a tall freshwater plant? Checkout Echinodorus red chameleon!

- This is a great background plant that reaches up to 12-18 inches. Many times, with taller swords we do recommend having decent water flow, so they don't accumulate too much hair algae growth on them.

- This plant when thriving in higher light situations will exhibit brighter red coloration whereas in other scenarios it may have greener leaves.

- Sword plants typically are a root feeder, so it is recommended to use root tabs to help keep these guys healthy.

5 Awesome Freshwater Fish at Aquarium Arts!

1. Agassizzi Cory - Corydora are a very popular bottom feeder for beginner freshwater aquariums. This variety features a nice black spotted pattern. We typically recommend keeping them in at least a group of 3 but the more the merrier if your filtration and tank size allows.

2. Dwarf Flag Cichlid - This is one I personally haven't had in the shop although they are a fish that was incredibly common in the early days of the aquarium trade.

3. Dorityi Rainbow - Rainbowfish have some of the brightest colors you can find in the trade. These guys are typically peaceful and get fairly large making them a great choice for larger community or semi aggressive setups.

4. Galaxy Rasbora - These are incredible popular especially for small micro and nano tanks. We have found them to thrive the most when being fed daphnia.

5. Harlequin Rasbora - These were one of the first fish that I owned. When fed well, the orange gets so bright and intense that it is almost red.

The Poor Man's Scolymia!!

Lobos have become one of my favorite show piece style corals in recent years. What I love most about them is the shear amount of color varieties. We commonly get some red pieces in from Indonesia and Fiji that have excellent colors. We also bring in some nice multicolored pieces from Australia.

For care on lobophyllia, I typically recommend keeping them in areas of the aquarium with moderate to low light and moderate to low flow. When I was younger, I used to be rather careless working in the shop and would often bump into lobos super hard while cleaning. Obviously, this would do damage to many corals, but especially on big fleshy single polyp LPS corals, this can be the difference between success and loss. Because they are an LPS coral you should pay close attention to your alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium.

I like to place them on the rock structure using aquarium safe epoxy and glue typically at or near the base. If you want them in the sand bed, I would still find some rubble rock to attach it to keep it a bit suspended from the sand where waste can accumulate, or critters can irritate the tissue. This is something I've been recommending for many aquarists recently despite the coral type.

Make sure to visit us in Mesa Arizona! We'd love to see you!
