brass & copper spine necklace with bleeding heart attachment made from string and mountain laurel seed (2026)
i made this as a final project in metals while thinking on a quote from James Baldwin’s, The Fire Next Time. The quote reads, “A civilization is not destroyed by wicked people; it is not necessary that people be wicked but only that they be spineless.” This quote inspired the choker design and protruding ribcage that sits visibly, heavily on whoever wears its chest. I wanna say thank you to @laritzagarciajewelry for all that shes awakened within me on my journey at TXST. by @ar.ichive

This is my thesis work! I titled it ‘Gut Feeling’. This work was a contemplation on the complexity of being a human and the noticeable overlap between the structures, functions and intelligence found in nature. I pose the question, if nature resembled you would you listen more closely? What does it feel like to empathize with a decomposer? What messages can be channeled from the earth? This was an eye opening experience. I thank my peers for their helpful insight and support. As well as my professors that pushed me to the edge of what I thought was possible for me!!!! by @ar.ichive

this is an ‘unusual portrait’ that expresses a hope/fear while using expressive colors and multiple kinds of stencils. my hope is for collective transcendence. by @ar.ichive
