‎This Open Forum leans heavily on policy and advocacy.
‎The gender pay gap in the film and television industry is a persistent structural issue that spans continents, countries and race in some cases.
‎The problem extends deep into production, where women earn less than their male counterparts or sometimes not paid at all.
‎
‎In Ghana, the Affirmative Action law was passed in 2024. But in practice what is in it for women in film and television? How do we make this law work for us.

Today, as we remember the legend that is Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, we are reminded that every great nation begins with a bold vision. 🇬🇭

Nkrumah did not merely dream of Ghana’s freedom, he imagined what Ghana could become and inspired generations to believe in that possibility.

As filmmakers, we also carry a responsibility: to preserve our history, celebrate our identity and tell stories that will outlive us.

That is the spirit behind THE ‘70’ SLATE.
A historic collaboration between @sparrowstudiosoriginal and @oldfilmentertainmentchannel , bringing two production houses together to honour Ghana’s journey through powerful, entertaining and proudly Ghanaian cinema.

As Ghana approaches 70, we are not only looking back at how far we have come. We are creating stories that will inspire us to imagine where we can go next.

Anny Araba Sedufia @arabagmb is a Ghanaian film producer, actress, and media professional with over 15 years of experience in Ghana’s film and creative industry. She is the managing director of Oldfilm Productions and has worked across several departments of film production, from production coordination and script supervision to associate producing, producing, and distribution.

Her credits include notable Ghanaian productions such as Keteke, Sidechic Gang, Away Bus, Aloevera, TankoVilla, Party Office, One Night Guests, and Living With Uncle Smith. With a background in film directing from NAFTI, media management from GIJ, and an MBA in project management from GIMPA, Anny brings a strong blend of creative, managerial, and industry insight to film evaluation.

As a producer committed to authentic African storytelling, audience development, and sustainable film business models, she continues to advocate for stronger structures, investment readiness, and visibility for Ghana’s film industry. Her experience across production, performance, marketing, and distribution positions her to assess films with both artistic sensitivity and practical industry understanding.

𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐌𝐲 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫.

Not in the dramatic “I quit everything” way people sometimes imagine.
But in the quiet, gradual, deeply personal way many women experience and rarely talk about openly.

In between pregnancies, I still managed to work on one or two productions before the next baby break came along. And for that, I’m grateful. 🤍

But if you know film production, then you know it’s not just a job you casually show up for. It demands long hours, physical energy, mental sharpness, flexibility and sometimes giving your entire body, mind and emotions to the process.

And truthfully… after motherhood, I couldn’t put in the same “full man and leg” hours like before. 😅

That change drastically affected:

𝒎𝒚 𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆,
𝒎𝒚 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒚𝒍𝒆,
𝒎𝒚 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒇𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒔,
𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏 𝒎𝒚 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒔𝒆𝒕.

There were moments I questioned myself deeply.
As women, especially ambitious women, we quietly mourn versions of ourselves while still being grateful for the beautiful children we prayed for.
And that emotional contradiction is something many mothers live with silently.

But somewhere in the middle of the slowing down, the pauses and the rebuilding, something beautiful also happened.

Motherhood gave me a different lens.
It opened up conversations.
It softened me.
It deepened me.
It made me pay attention to women’s stories differently.

Maybe that’s why creating a platform like Tips by MRS now feel so personal to me.

Because perhaps this season is not just about “coming back.”

Maybe it’s about 𝘳𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘺𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘺𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧, first, and then to the world. ✨
And honestly?
I think many women are currently in that same space too.

Motherhood is not only by birth.
Sometimes it is by sacrifice.

By presence.
By patience.
By love.

Thank you for carrying parts of me when I was too tired to carry myself. 🤍

Google Photos just reminded me of my breastfeeding days 2 years ago 😅

The discipline ehn… to keep milk flowing.
Pumping. Feeding. Eating all the things they say help.
Everyday like it’s a full-time job.

Now I’m here like… wow. We really did that.

First, thank You God 🙏🏾
Because honestly, this is the cheapest way to keep baby alive.
No calculations, no running up and down… just you and your body showing up.

So when they say exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months,
don’t panic too much.
See it as a small savings plan + bonding time.

9 months already passed.
Is it 6 months that will finish you? 😄

In the moment it feels long…
but one day you’ll look back like this and just smile.
