The Thameside West Park Design Group has come together.
The new park will be an important part of the Thameside West proposals, creating a new public space for the local community.
The Park Design Group sessions are being led by creative engagement specialists, Planit, and the wider project team to help shape a specific section of the park around local needs, bringing local knowledge, experiences and ideas into its design.
In September, the group came together for its first two workshops, including a visit to Thameside West and conversations about what this part of the park could offer.
With three workshops still to come, follow the journey as the ideas develop.

Arada London has submitted plans for 101 Newington Causeway in Elephant & Castle, a new mixed-use development bringing together co-living, hospitality, workspace and public realm.

The proposals will deliver 720 new co-living homes and a 404-bed hotel, alongside more than 9,000 sq ft of co-working space, cafés, shared dining, social and wellbeing spaces.

Designed by @plparchitecture , the two buildings are conceived as a vertical village, with shared amenities and landscaped spaces connecting the development and creating new pedestrian routes towards Elephant & Castle station and the town centre. Their stepped concrete façades respond to the industrial character of the area and its evolving skyline.

The scheme is Arada’s first co-living development globally, and an opportunity to explore a different model of urban living, bringing together homes, hospitality, workspaces and places to meet in a way that reflects how people live and work in London today. by @aradalondon

Arada has submitted a series of planning applications to the London Borough of Newham to advance the delivery of Thameside West, a £2.5 billion GDV site with the potential to deliver at least 5,000 homes. At over 47 acres, this is one of London’s largest and most ambitious regeneration projects, with proposals that would unlock the delivery of affordable housing and connect the area between the Thames and Royal Docks for the first time.

Building on the existing hybrid planning permission, the plans set out a landscape-led approach to the first stage of the project. The buildings will be organised around a network of streets, gardens, parks and shared spaces, with cafes and restaurants on the ground floor. This stage comprises nearly 1,500 new homes across six buildings, the first two of which will now be 100% social rent and will include three and four bedroom family homes.

At the heart of the proposals will be a new seven-acre park, alongside around 1,000 new trees, creating a greener, more biodiverse environment for residents and the wider community. The park will include dedicated play spaces including adventure-filled woodland areas, play trails and play-on-the-way spaces. This is further complemented by a kilometre of active waterfront and a riverside walk along Bell Lane, which marks the south-east border of the site.

A community design group of 20 local residents is working with Arada London to help shape a section of park around local needs. A series of workshops is now underway, giving residents the opportunity to share local knowledge, explore ideas and inform the design of a welcoming and inclusive public space.

Thameside West is being brought forward in partnership with the Greater London Authority The Royal Docks Team, reflecting a shared commitment to unlocking and delivering high quality, genuinely affordable new homes that meet local need with a focus on nature and wellbeing. by @aradalondon

The Arada London team were joined by Clarion Housing Group to celebrate the topping out of 100 Chalk Farm Road, Camden, marking the building reaching its full height and bringing the project one step closer to delivering 30 new social rent homes.

The project forms part of the wider partnership with Clarion, through which three Arada London schemes,100 Chalk Farm Road, 100 Avenue Road and Jamestown Road, will deliver 136 new social rent homes across Camden. Built by Arada’s in-house construction arm, the homes have been designed to meet Clarion’s social rent quality standards and will be managed by Clarion on completion.

HRH Prince Khaled bin Alwaleed bin Talal Al Saud, Executive Vice Chairman of Arada was in attendance to mark the occasion, alongside colleagues from Arada London, Clarion Housing Group and Camden Council.

As London continues to face significant pressure on affordable housing supply, partnerships that bring together the ability to deliver at pace with long-term stewardship are increasingly important.
