Viajó hasta allí solo para eso. Hizo la foto, guardó el trípode y, con una toallita, borró el maquillaje y la sonrisa calculada. Su armadura ante el mundo, de pronto, le empezó a pesar. Al quitarse las gafas y soltarse el pelo, la ciudad la vio desnuda. Solo era una mujer triste, cansada de fingir.

She traveled all the way there just for that. She took the photo, put away the tripod, and, with a wipe, erased her makeup and her calculated smile. Her armor against the world suddenly began to weigh heavily on her. As she took off her sunglasses and let her hair down, the city saw her naked. She was just a sad woman, tired of pretending.

Desde que enterró a su mujer, el anciano hablaba cada tarde con un cisne negro.
Siempre llevaba migas de pan en los bolsillos.
Aquella tarde llegó con las manos vacías, pero el cisne se acercó igual.
El anciano sonrió al verlo: hacía tiempo que el cisne ya no venía por la comida.

Ever since he buried his wife, the old man spent every afternoon talking with a black swan.
He always carried bread crumbs in his pockets.
That afternoon he turned up empty-handed, but the swan came over just the same.
The old man smiled when he saw it: the swan had long since stopped coming for the food.

Habían pasado veinte años, pero algunas promesas saben esperar.

No one knew who she was waiting for.
One afternoon, three boats appeared on the horizon. The first sailed past. The second disappeared into the mist. The third remained still, just in front of her. Then she smiled.

El sol duró más aquella tarde descubriendo que el ser humano también sabía poner el mundo del revés, que podía vagar sin rumbo aparente; lento o veloz según sintiera... Al anochecer entristeció sintiendo no poder despedirse de nadie cuando, en realidad, con su partida, se despide de todo aquél que le esté observando.

That afternoon, the sun lingered a little longer, discovering that humans, too, knew how to turn the world upside down; that they could wander without seeming to have anywhere to go, moving slowly or swiftly, depending on what they felt.
As night fell, the sun grew melancholy, thinking it could never say goodbye to anyone. When, in truth, with every departure, it bids farewell to everyone who happens to be watching.

Aquella tarde, en la Laguna Negra, la casa les atrajo más que el lago. Algo mágico les llamaba. El viento susurraba sus nombres de entre las ventanas, invitándoles a permanecer en aquél lugar... Para siempre.

Cuando el sol volvió, nada había cambiado.
Salvo él.

Ya no podía andar como antes por aquellas calles de Londres. El tiempo le había robado su velocidad, fuerza y equilibrio...

Pero después de escuchar aquél violín durante un largo rato se agachó con dificultad y dejó, discretamente, sin apuro y apartado en el estuche, un billete bien plegado como el que las abuelas guardan, a escondidas, a sus nietos en un bolsillo...

Luego siguió lentamente su camino, claramente emocionada

She could no longer walk those London streets as she once had. Time had taken her speed, her strength, her balance…

But after listening to the violin for a long while, she slowly bent down. With some difficulty, and in no hurry at all, she quietly slipped a neatly folded note into the violinist’s case, tucked away as though it were a little secret — like the notes grandmothers sometimes hide in their grandchildren’s pocket.

Then she carried on, slowly, visibly moved.
