Today was truly a special day! I had the honor of participating in the 2026 Deerfield Run Career Day—returning to my first school in the Laurel area. I spoke with three 5th-grade classes, a 2nd-grade class, and a 1st-grade class, and the experience was incredibly rewarding. Two moments really stood out: First, as I walked into one classroom, a student recognized me and shared that he had won a brand new bike at our 4th Annual Back to School Drive. That moment was powerful—it brought our work full circle and showed these students what community service looks like in action. This event continues to grow every year, fueled not by a large budget, but by genuine community support. Second, I had a meaningful conversation with the school librarian, who has nearly a decade of experience. I took time to listen and learn, because it’s essential to hear directly from educators and staff about the challenges they face—and the solutions that could help ease their burden.
