30 seconds of Inis Mór 🌊
Last March I finally returned to Inis Mór and again it blew me away. If you’re planning a trip to the west coast, here is exactly how to do it:
Get the @aranislandferries ferry from Rossaveel. The return ticket is around €42 plus parking at the pier. Once you arrive on the island, rent an e-bike right by the harbor for €40,it is easily the best way to get around and tackle the hills.
Here are the incredible locations I explored in this video:
• The winding Coast Road & traditional stone walls
• The resident Grey Seal Colony near Kilmurvey
• Dún Aonghasa, the massive prehistoric cliff fort
• The Worm Hole (Poll na bPéist) natural pool
• The Old Inishmore Lighthouse & Signal Station ruins
• The historic WWII “ÉIRE 50”
• The ancient ruins of the Seven Churches
• The Black Fort (Dún Dúchathair) cliff edge

As part of World Migratory Bird Day 2026 🐦 we would like to give a shoutout to the Grey Heron.

Did you know many Herons on the Aran Islands are permanent residents. However they are joined by other Herons from Scandinavia and Northern Europe who migrate in Winter due to Inis Mórs coastal waters that never freeze 🥶

Herons typically build their nests in trees however due to the karst landscape of Inis Mór they have started nesting together in the islands sheltered shrubery🌿 forming a 'heronry' and is incredibly unique.
