🌱Good Nutrition is getting me through these studies. I won’t lie, I’m counting down the days for a few down days of study.
📚I’ve clocked 3x the amount of hours required for graduation. I will keep at it, because I want to bring my future clients the best information.

Rising Appalachia band released a new album this week, it’s on the spin. 🎼
✈️🎶🎸Fun fact about me, I love music and you may catch me plucking a few tunes on here in the future. You may also catch me on a jet plane to see my favorite bands live. 🪩💃🫶🤍

Traditional Chinese Medicine is coming in hot!🔥
I get so giddy when I see it in my Midwifery books!!!! I have a deep calling for this art of TCM and I look forward to many more years of studying, learning, practicing and hopefully teaching. ( teaching my greatest passion)!

For now let’s drop a few little golden moxi nuggets!!! Although, I have no experience with this in pregnancy, I am aware of its positive impactful (non invasive practices) physiological effects on the body!!!
I take the studies with a grain of salt but as I move forward, I may have a few moxi wands in my bag 😎✌️

A little insight from the 2023 study.
“Moxibustion at BL67 has been studied as a noninvasive option for breech presentation, particularly around 33–35 weeks. The 2023 Cochrane review of 13 studies involving 2,181 women found moderate-certainty evidence that adding moxibustion to usual care probably reduces the likelihood of non-cephalic presentation at birth. However, it probably has little to no effect on cesarean birth, and evidence regarding reduction in ECV is uncertain. Therefore, moxibustion may be offered as a complementary option after appropriate counseling, but it should not replace standard assessment, ECV when appropriate, or an individualized birth plan.”

❤️‍🔥Please note the use of mugwort internally is contraindicated in pregnancy. This is a very powerful herb “The Mother herb” and needs to be used with skill and precautions.

Informed consent can change the course of your entire birth experience—and choosing the right care provider matters more than I ever understood.

At 21, I was seven months pregnant with twins, working full-time as a hemodialysis tech, attending school full-time, and having a healthy pregnancy. Little did I know my provider never intended for me to have a natural birth, despite many conversations about it.

At 38 weeks, I went into labor. When I arrived at the hospital, they told me one baby was breech, even though I knew Baby B wasn’t. After three hours of pressure, a nurse told me my babies would die without a C-section. I didn’t have the information or tools to know I could refuse or leave. I was in labor and simply trying to get through each contraction.

They also gave me magnesium sulfate, telling me it was necessary to stop labor until the doctor arrived. I felt like my skin was on fire, itched all night, and had already been awake for 48 hours. My blood pressure on arrival was 98/57.

Years later, I discovered my case had been falsified and billed under preeclampsia. I had also lost a tremendous amount of blood( one adverse effect of Mag sulfate), making my first months as a new mother incredibly difficult. Still, I looked at my boys and promised them we would get through it together.

I’m not sharing this for sympathy, but for awareness. Trauma doesn’t simply disappear, and entering midwifery brought many of these experiences back to the surface. I eventually had a hospital VBAC and two home births, but I wish I had been better informed from the beginning.

Please do your homework, ask uncomfortable questions, and remember that informed consent matters. Don’t simply copy someone else’s choices—learn your options and make decisions that are right for you. To those still carrying birth trauma: I see you. Please share your stories and be a beacon of hope for others. ⚔️❤️‍🩹 #malpractice #mismanagement #cruel #informedconsent #nofilter taken in Shell Beach, California by @arborizingvessels

Trigger Warning ‼️

❤️‍🔥Miscarriage💔. I had my first clinical experience last week with my preceptors client. Of course over the years I’ve held many hands in this space, not a first but a first in training.
This is part of the journey. If you would be so kind to say a prayer for this family please 🙏
Here is another few videos of my garden in full bloom, where the angels show up as Northern cardinals and butterflies, the peace is abundant here. 🤍🦋 #miscarriages #student #journey #life #after l by @arborizingvessels

Happy International Midwifery Day! I’m incredibly grateful for my midwife, Paula, and the thoughtful, attentive care she’s given me. We truly need more midwives like her—skilled, present, and deeply committed. ( Here are a few pics from some of our pregnancies and home births)!

It’s also important to remember: the midwife who cares for you isn’t perfect—and doesn’t need to be to provide exceptional care. What matters is experience, good judgment, and transparency.

If I were choosing a midwife, these are some of the questions I’d ask:

1. How many losses have you experienced in your care?
2. Can you share the circumstances—what happened, when, and why?
3. What kinds of birth emergencies have you managed, and what were the outcomes?

A responsible midwife understands that while birth is a natural process, it can also be unpredictable. Appropriate risk assessment, timely referrals, and collaboration with medical care when needed are essential. In many practices, a transfer rate in the range of about 5–10% reflects attentiveness to safety rather than failure.

At the end of the day, safe, respectful, and informed care should always be the priority—for both mother and baby. #midwife #studentmidwife #internationalmidwivesday #informedconsent #student by @arborizingvessels

The room adorn with instruments, my ideal room for sure. This chord piano chart I loved with the tiny scribbles. I could of taken a pic of the beautiful instruments but my heart is used to the scribbles.

There is a lot to take in at a birth but when in training it can be overwhelming. The quickness of one wrong move, one late move or one move to soon, could have several different outcomes. The ability to assess risk is at the forefront of this duty. Birth is natural yes, but so is natural law and it’s affects. We are holding human hearts here, unpredictable, uncertain, and for this provider a trust in something other than her own. I am grateful to witness such humility. A verse that’s been on my heart for several months, it always has been a lamp unto my feet, onwards as I press forward.

“To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.” #isaiah613 #birth #placenta #studentmidwife #music by @arborizingvessels

The way maker always making a way!!!!!Antepartum 201 Complete!!! Not without obstacles though and I think that’s fitting for this field of Midwifery. Not everything goes as planned, birth, bodies and physiology does have to pivot. Passed my second attempt at the final… There were flying squirrels everywhere.( I mean everywhere! 😅😭🫠)
This is nothing new under the sun for me, text anxiety since 1981 and that’s why I have a degree in art!
🐿️🤞😜💜🦋🕯️
We have such a sweet cohort and some of the best upcoming midwives!! We were spoiled with Midwife Michelle Gold, who is patient and kind and super smart and supportive!! ( it’s not easy being a teacher and a midwife on call)!
I will surely miss a few of you who are skipping summer semester( all for very good reason’s). I look forward to watching all of our journeys unfold, this has brought tremendous growth to my life and I love seeing the growth in others! Thank you for all the encouragement and prayers they were felt. 🏵️🙏✨
Sorry if I missed some of you in the tag!
