“The evolution of residential lighting is less about trends and more about refinement: reducing visual noise, enhancing architectural clarity, and allowing light to shape space without announcing itself," - Ashley Maxwell, Associate Lighting Designer at dpa lighting consultants. At Akaya Horizon in Antigua, @dpalightingconsultants brings depth to Ward & Co. Interiors’ restrained palette through soft, concealed illumination. As daylight fades, gently layered light blends interior and exterior and drawing the living spaces out onto the terraces while preserving the darkness beyond. At Stockholm’s Queen Silvia Concert Hall, the @afry.official lighting team was asked to reconcile two seemingly opposing briefs: the drama and atmosphere of a performance space, and the uniformity required for teaching. From glare-free illumination and full-scale colour temperature tests to acoustic challenges and hands-on fine-tuning, the result is a flexible environment designed around the musicians who use it. Discover how light, architecture and sound come together to help the next generation of performers feel at home on the concert stage. Read the full story via the link in bio. by @arc_magazine

Print can make an impact without costing the earth 🌍 For 26 years, [d]arc media has championed beautifully designed, high-quality magazines. For every issue we print, we balance the paper’s carbon impact through the World Land Trust’s Carbon Balanced Paper programme. Our latest issue balanced 1,728 kg of CO₂e, supporting the protection and reforestation of threatened forests. Going paperless isn’t automatically greener. Responsibly sourced paper is renewable and recyclable, while digital communication carries its own environmental footprint. So we’ve compiled a few reasons why print is best. "When you walk into any great architectural space, the last thing you want anybody to say is ‘what great lighting’. What you want to hear people say is ‘what a great space’... I definitely think that the [Melbourne] Metro Tunnels are in that school. Although on the surface the impression is that a lot of the light fittings are physically, visually expressed, in fact, light is extremely integrated into the overall concept of the architecture.” - Mark Major Issue #154 cover story features the Melbourne Metro Tunnel, designed by RSHP, which celebrates the civic identity of the Australian city through five dramatic new underground stations. Complementing the architecture of each station was a lighting scheme crafted by @spiersmajor, led by One of the last projects completed before he stepped down as Senior Partner of SMLA earlier this year, Mark Major talks to arc magazine about the lighting scheme's journey from initial briefing to completion.
