Students are building brands, selling products, offering services, creating content and solving real problems—but many still don’t have the right ecosystem to learn, connect, sell and grow.

So we decided to build one.

About 10 months ago, I started my transition into Product Management through @rkycareers

At the time, I had a very practical reason for making the transition.

I was already building something.
Together with my co-founders, I was working on @shopuni.ng a platform born from our own experiences as student entrepreneurs at Abia State University.

We had the idea. We understood the problem. But we needed to understand how to build the right product for the people we were trying to serve.

That was where my Product Management journey began.
Through RKY, I started learning about product discovery, user needs, product strategy, agile ways of working, prioritisation and, importantly, building with the customer rather than simply building what we thought was a good idea.

Fast forward 10 months, and the learning has moved beyond theory.
We have launched the ShopUni MVP.
Then we listened.
We gathered feedback, identified gaps, went back to the drawing board and built a better, more customer-centric version of the product.

That experience has taught me something I didn’t fully understand when I started:
Product Management isn’t just about managing a product. It’s about understanding people well enough to build something they actually need.
A few weeks ago, I attended @limitless_without_borders (LWB) 4.0 Lagos, organised by RKY Group.
LWB brought together professionals, founders, creators and leaders around the theme “Building for Global Relevance: Careers, Business & Wealth Creation,” with conversations around career growth, entrepreneurship, technology, networks and global opportunities.
Sitting in that room made me reflect on the journey.

10 months ago, I was learning how to transition into Product Management.

Today, I’m applying that knowledge to a product I’m actually building.
And we’re still learning.
ShopUni is still evolving.
I’m still evolving.
But that’s the beauty of the journey.
You don’t need to have everything figured out before you start. You need to start, learn, listen, iterate—and keep building.

What started as an idea…
A simple project to help corps members not waste their NYSC year…

Is no longer just a project.

Today, @sabikopa_ng is officially a registered organization.

We’ve taken the steps that matter:
✔️ Cleared by SCUML
✔️ Recognized with a recommendation from NYSC
✔️ Official bank accounts set up
✔️ Dedicated contact line established

But more than structure, this means something deeper…

It means we’re here to stay.

It means every corps member who feels lost, underutilized, or unsure about their future now has a platform built for them.

It means we are no longer just talking about impact —
we are building it, intentionally and sustainably.

This is just the beginning.
