So what do I mean by saying you cannot NOT brand yourself? There is the saying 'You cannot not communicate'. We constantly communicate - through words, body language, chosing to engage or disengage in social situations, what we wear, how we walk.' We constantly send out signals. Branding is directly rooted in communication and therefore in human psychology. We judge whether we like or dislike a person within seconds, but luckily sometimes our perception changes with time. As we gain more insight, understand where someone stands and why they behave the way they behave, we often adjust our views. All these things - behavior, values, your backstory, your personality - are part of your brand (like it or not). In Marketing we distinguish an Artist identity from an Artist image. The identity is how you see and define yourself. The image is how the world perceives and defines you. The latter is beyond your control, but branding is the attempt to create a bridge between you and your audience, a place where your identity and your image may start to overlap more. So to build that bridge, I suggest you start working through these questions first: ❔Do you communicate your Art intentionally? Or do you just expect audiences to listen to you? Just like that? Sacrificing their valuable time? ❔What is in it for them? Identification? Connection? ❔Why do you share your Art? What are your expectations? ❔Do you want to build a relationship or would you rather isolate yourself on a high horse? ;) I don't mean to offend anyone. These are just the hard questions to reflect on! To understand your own intentions. Branding in my opinion is a form of respect for your audience and for your Art! Why? -> You are laying out your values, your vision, your comitment and your artistic voice so that people can connect with your Art more easily. I invite you to stop believing that Branding devalues your Art or makes you less of an Artist. Your Art deserves more! You deserve more! Let us all remember: The most valuable part in our Art is our humanity! The Artist Brand highlights just that! Follow me for more! 💛 by @archetypalsongwriting
