How did I get hooked on anime?

Sorry my Japanese is rough.

As a kid, I was watching anime without realizing it. My first experience was Speed Racer. And then we went to the video store and rented tons of animation that I didn’t understand like Akira, Ninja Scroll, The Guyver: Bio-Boosted Armor, etc. real brutal not for kids stuff.

But Sailor Moon soon aired on USA Network, and I was hooked. I watched as much as I could.

In middle school, my band teacher lent me Tenchi Muyo, and I think then I realized I was hooked. From then, I started watching everything I could get my hands on. Even had bootleg Japanese only VHS or Dragonball Z YEARS BEFORE any aired on Cartoon Network.

That love for Japan grew as I would be exposed to it through textbooks, video games, and manga.

Finally, in 2007, my dream of ever visiting Japan came to be. And that’s where a lot it really started.

Music school almost burned me out completely.

The hours were brutal. The pressure was constant.

Looking back, everything was worth doing. But I wish I had the luxury and of time to space it a little more.

Pre-dance rituals like dinner, video games, and getting dressed up.

Everyone coming just to escape regular life for a short moment.
