Anyone else suffering from a case of “Architalx Withdrawal” this week?
🙋🏽‍♂️🙋‍♀️🙋🏻
Good thing is that with the 40th anniversary coming up next year, we’ll be planning a few more events between now and next April.

Also, the videos from this year’s Talx will be on the site soon for anyone who missed these lectures.

Thank you to all who participated this year — from speakers, to sponsors to every single person who attended Architalx.

The Art of the Poster
🎨
Every Architalx season leaves behind more than memorable conversations—it creates lasting works of graphic design. Our lecture posters capture the spirit of each season, transforming architecture, art, and typography into collectible pieces that celebrate the ideas and voices shaping the built environment. Whether displayed in a studio, office, classroom, or home, each poster is a reminder that great design extends beyond buildings. More than event announcements, these posters document decades of architectural dialogue and the creative community that has gathered around Architalx. Almost 40 years in — explore the collection on our website under the TALX archives where each poster is featured next to the speaker’s photo.

We were excited to welcome @valentina.vision , Producer/Director of "Schindler Space Architect" to @architalx recently, co-hosted at the @portlandmuseum.

AAmp's Andrew Ashey moderated a conversation with Valentina, who shared insights from her award-winning documentary exploring the life and legacy of visionary architect R. M. Schindler and his lasting influence on modern architecture, design thinking, and California indoor-outdoor living. It was an inspiring conversation on creativity, experimentation, and architectural legacy.

Andrew serves as Board President of Architalx, a 40 year-old nonprofit lecture series based in Portland, Maine that brings leading architects, designers, and thinkers together for public talks on architecture and the built environment through the month of April.

Thank you for joining us, Valentina!

In 2025, we had the honor of hosting Jennifer Dempsey of Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects at an Architalx lecture. One of the projects she spoke on was their involvement in the design and creation of the Obama Presidential Center on the South Side of Chicago — a world-class museum and public gathering space that celebrates our nation’s first African American President and First Lady.

The center will open to the public on June 19th and the photos and interviews we are seeing are moving and remarkable. Congratulations to the Obamas and the team at Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects as well as all who touched this enormous and important project.

“You are America. Unconstrained by habit and convention. Unencumbered by what is, ready to seize what ought to be. For everywhere in this country, there are first steps to be taken, there is new ground to cover, there are more bridges to be crossed. America is not the project of any one person. The single most powerful word in our democracy is the word ‘We.’ ‘We The People.’ ‘We Shall Overcome.’ ‘Yes We Can.’ That word is owned by no one. It belongs to everyone. Oh, what a glorious task we are given to continually try to improve this great nation of ours.”

We were excited to welcome Brigitte Shim, Co-founder of @shimsutcliffe Architects to @architalx this past month! Based in Toronto -- home to one of our AAmp offices -- it was especially meaningful to host her in Maine, where our team had the opportunity to hear her speak, tour her project Congregation Bet Ha'am in South Portland, and share great conversations over dinner at @waysidetavern.

AAmp’s principal, Andrew Ashey, serves as Board President of Architalx, a 40-year-old nonprofit lecture series based in Portland, Maine that brings leading architects, designers, and thinkers together for public talks on architecture and the built environment through the month of April.

Thank you for joining us, Brigitte!

Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial “official” kick-off to the Summer season here in Maine. Can you feel it?
☀️🌊🦞
The buzz is in the air. The restaurants have set up the outside seating, boats are in the water, the final chair is out on the deck. And, the summer folks are heading north. 🚙

Here’s a nod to some special places we love here in Maine — from the Old Port to the lakes to downeast. What’s your favorite “summah” place?
