I visualized the feeling of being empty—I don’t want to be alone with my thoughts because I’m afraid of them—I overthink & don’t want to sleep

Moments of joy brings me out of numbness but what is joy, what is happiness?

I recorded others’ thoughts of how they see the relationship between emptiness and happiness—how they can’t recognize themselves most days, how they often manufacture their happiness, and how the vulnerability of being one self is so scary

National YoungArts Week 2024

During YoungArts Week, I performed my screenplay Yoshie, set in early 1950s Nihonbashi, Tokyo, in the aftermath of WWII. When a young vegan girl is served lunch with animal products for the first time under Japan’s new school lunch program (kyūshoku), she must decide whether to challenge deeply rooted traditional eating values or betray her own beliefs.
