Located near Porto, next to the former Companhia Cerâmica das Devesas, the project reinterprets the site's ceramic heritage through a centre for tile production, research and conservation. Digital fabrication, wet processing, glazing, painting, diagnosis and restoration are combined with a public co-working café, bringing visitors into direct contact with the tile-making process.

The architecture translates the transformation of clay into two contrasting volumes: a fluid, light clay-plastered building recalls the plasticity of unfired clay, while an orthogonal glazed volume wrapped in a rotating terracotta tile screen represents its fired state.

The tile facade is composed of perforated double-colour tiles. They are supported by hollow SHS beams integrated with the glass framework. Flanged bushing allows tile rotation about the metal rod, which enables control of sunlight into space.

My model is on show in Insegnare lo spazio / Teaching Space at @polimi, from the History and Theory of Contemporary Architecture course with Prof. Luka Skansi, Susanna Campeotto and Francesco Maranelli.

From the hexagonal canopy over the M1 entrance, I isolated one theme: the edge. Each one is a steel beam carrying two inclined plates in a shallow V, where structure, light and ornament meet.
