Arrigo Arrighetti’s canopy for Amendola metro station, Milan (1961).
Paper model, 25 × 25 cm.
My model is on show in Insegnare lo spazio / Teaching Space at @polimi, from the History and Theory of Contemporary Architecture course with Prof. Luka Skansi, Susanna Campeotto and Francesco Maranelli.
From the hexagonal canopy over the M1 entrance, I isolated one theme: the edge. Each one is a steel beam carrying two inclined plates in a shallow V, where structure, light and ornament meet.
Have you ever noticed it in Piazza Amendola?
