An impromptu 4 hour road trip to The Vixen in McHenry IL. 80's Hair Metal covers performed by Mock Star got the evening off to a rocking start. The headliner was Nerd Halen/Hagar. As the name suggests they are a Van Halen cover band. Their lead singer Hal Sparks brings the energy of a man half his age. He brought his friend Johnny Million on stage to shred his guitar for us. Johnny even played a song with Mock Star. Both Johnny and Hal were very accommodating for pictures with me. I brought an item with me that Hal sent to supporters. I didn't know that I would receive this beautiful keepsake medallion from Hal for doing that. I translated from Latin the wording on it in the picture. Ragbrai Day 3 -A fun packed day. Our first order of the day was to have a few flamingo shots from the campers next door from Colorado whose team wears speedos while riding the route. Our This guy/gal Needs a Beer jerseys today matched well with what happened on the route. We bypassed the first town, and saw a free beer sign so we stopped for the beer, and stayed for the blueberry pancakes the size of your head. I left our team sticker on the cooler to let others know we were there. The first back pocket beer stop was a memorable one. I found my doppelganger. This guy had a similar bike accident as me and we both lost front teeth from it. 🤣 Our first human pyramid of the week was a success, and we took our traditional picture of us in a circle on the ground. The next stop was Minnesota. They had 1 stop there in a park with vendors and activities to partake in. At the second back pocket beer stop we finally found our old friend Jacques from team Me Off. Did you catch the sexual innuendo? It still makes us laugh to say "Jacques me off" out loud every time when we meet him. Our team flag was proudly displayed along side of the road. We watched Catum participate in a beer drinking contest. Before we finished the route we found more free beer. We stayed a long time, and played many different games like Golf, Cornhole, and Pong. Dinner was cooked by our very own team member Uncle Vern. The fettuccine Alfredo was excellent! To finish the day we attended the Pork Tornadoes concert. Some random guy was using a leaf blower to cool the audience with. We sang and danced the night away. After the encore the speakers played the song from the Dirty Dancing movie. Several people tried to copy what Catum and Brad did a few years ago where you recreate the scene from the movie of lifting her up above his head. None were successful. 🤣 This was the best day yet for me because of my wonderful teammates, and all the fun activities around to do. Days like this will keep me coming back. Tomorrow it will be very warm, so we will prepare for that. by @archnite

Ragbrai Day 1- This day started out much better weather wise. 70's and overcast. Catum gave us our send off speech. We rode 10 miles to the breakfast stop. Chris's Cake is my go-to for the perfect pancakes to fuel my day. You are tossed your pancakes and I caught all 4 of mine. So many characters show up to these events. Some even offer shots of Malort which is a hideous drink. Next was the beer stop where we can earn a T-shirt if we stop at them all week. The Iowa craft beers are excellent. A few of us took part in the 130 yard closest to the green fundraiser. I did good considering I had to golf right handed instead of my normal left handed. My best shot was 10 yards short of the green. After that we had lunch at Mr. Porkchop where you can get a huge porkchop and a napkin to hold it while you eat it. Posed for a picture with the po-po who help keep us safe on the route. Temperatures shot up when the sun came out. This caused problems so we found the most efficient way to get us to our camp at the end. Our awesome support help had all the tents setup when we got there. Dinner was a loaded baked potato bar at the local church after a hot shower at camp. This rainbow showed up as we walked out of the church. Maybe a sign from above. We learned today that Perkins gives free straws with every drink. 🤣 Tomorrow Ragbrai rides in Minnesota for 15 miles. Which is a first in the 52 years of Ragbrai. by @archnite

Rain started and ended the day zero of Ragbrai. Thunderstorms rolled through the early morning skies at our Palasades campground. We managed to get our tents taken down and packed between the storms. The campground had heated showers which was a pleasant surprise. Things did not get better as we packed the trailer and vehicles for our trip to the starting line over 4 hours away. It rained the entire time loading and we all got soaked. We got a lesson on rusty balls (inside joke). Dealt with a faulty signal light on the trailer for way too long, and met some helpful people who were having a party where we stopped to work on the lights. What are the odds of that? 😉 After lengthy negotiations on what to do we decided that some more time drinking would help us think of a solution. We set up camp in Orange City and got Uncle Vern to say a few words before we went to the expo. All of us got food and saw all the vendors, before mother nature ended our night early and we ran back to camp to ride out the next storm which lasted about an hour. 71 miles tomorrow. We should be well rested for day one. Good luck to our teammate Jonathan Curran who is doing the Lake Placid Ironman tomorrow instead of Ragbrai this year. Ragbrai started 2 days early for me. I flew down to Florida to help my brother drive his truck to Ragbrai. Got my sushi fix satisfied at Sol- bistro. Played Fortnite for the first time thanks to some coaching by my bro. Stopped at my first Buc-ee's! A true monument to capitalism. The pulled pork is excellent. A true 24 hours and 1100 miles later we made it back to La Crosse. 3 hour nap and lunch with Mom who made us all cookies again this year we were off to Cedar Rapids to get organized for the great migration to the starting line tomorrow. We camped in the Palasades to test our camping gear. The bike expo and parties await our arrival tomorrow. The ride starts Sunday. #ragbrai @ragbrai by @archnite
