About 5 years ago, I started doing hand sketches on sketchbooks when I was tremendously inspired by the hand drawings by @dwayneoyler. Ever since then, my sketchbook became a zone for peace and meditation to me to explore ideas with tangible results. I was extremely thrilled when he announced that he decided to reproduce his favorite sketchbooks by himself and make them available to everyone else with the same passion. I have not been able to do much sketch for a year, but I’m excited to get back to my zone with such a meaningful object. Thank you! @vzcompetition just announced results of their Tiny Library 2021 Architecture Competition, and I’m honored to be picked as the second place winner. Thank you @volume_zero for the amazing opportunity.

The brief asked participants to imagine a small library for a disadvantageous group of people in either rural or urban areas, promoting self-growth and community bonding through the sharing of knowledge and access to educational resources.

Read on the Wheel is a “ride-in” library that proposes a special typology of library for the Blue Riders in Beijing, China. Blue Rider has become the human infrastructure for delivery service in China that support millions of people’s daily lives. 80% of them are from villages in rural areas. Despite their growing population in cities, there is little effort to design specifically for their social integration. This proposal tries to redefine the territory of a personal learning space and public space for Blue Riders, and create spaces for socializing, consulting, and seminars, which would help Blue Riders connect with other communities in the area and also to learn.

Year of The Horse 3D Printed Invitation Card

3”x3”x0.04” perfectly mailable.
.
The design was inspired by layering of thin filaments that create gradients. Chinese characters were modified to emphasize abstract square grids (方块字）, thus giving away to the main horse pattern in the middle.
