The tube rack - It consists of the Gyraf G14, which gives me the musicality of a passive mastering EQ — one of the best-sounding equalizers ever made. The Culture Vulture gets useful if the music sounds too digital, blending it in at around 10% wet. The solid state rack - Or the elysia rack? Consisting of the Elysia Alpha Compressor and the Museq, these devices can add depth to music like no other hardware or plug-in can achieve, and they offer uncompromising sound quality. The Antelope Pure2 runs on 10 MHz precision, receiving a clock from the Mutec REF10 nano. A new addition to the studio: The Audeze MM-520. This is the updated version of the MM-500. After testing it for several weeks, I can confirm that Audeze has done an outstanding job with the new SLAM technology. While it is expensive, it is a professional tool for mixing and mastering that translates extremely well on other devices. Before you reach for EQ or compression: check your gain staging. If every track is already hot going into the mix, you’re fighting distortion instead of shaping sound. Production tip:
Why is it best to send 32-bit files for mastering?
Each additional bit provides approximately 6 dB of dynamic range. If you export your audio at a level that is too quiet, for example with a peak level of -48 dBFS instead of close to 0 dBFS, you are wasting headroom.
Mathematically, 48 dB ÷ 6 dB per bit = 8 bits.
This means that the top eight bits of your file are filled with nothing but zeros. In effect, your 24-bit export only has the quality and resolution of a 16-bit file. 32-bit files use a floating-point system that automatically adjusts the decimal point to maintain perfect resolution, even at low volumes. #arclabmastering #musicproduction #productiontips #mixing #musicproducer by @arclab_mastering
