Dolly Parton’s iconic status—and the enormous wave of shock, sadness and grief following her death—reminds me of three other music and entertainment giants who died during my lifetime: Elvis, John Lennon and Michael Jackson.

Though Dolly was 80 and had acknowledged recent health challenges, she still somehow seemed immortal. A force of nature. Someone who would simply keep going, forever.

And now, much like Elvis (August 16, 1977), Lennon (December 8, 1980) and Jackson (June 25, 2009), I suspect August 25, 2026 will become one of those dates we never forget—and one of those moments when we’ll always remember exactly where we were when we heard the news.

Some people - and by that I mean a very precious few - become so much a part of our lives and our culture that it’s hard to imagine a world without them.

Dolly was one of those people. by @arejay50

This is a fun trend to follow and I’ll save you the lurid details on what Chatgpt identified as “warnings” about me, but the one I’ve shared in comments is 100% legit, lol. by @arejay50

This one. This girl - er, ‘scuse me, this vibrant, beautiful young woman - celebrates a birthday today. The youngest of our four. The wonderful, unexpected gift who is the exclamation point of our family. Riley LoCurto, there are not enough words in the dictionary to express how much I love you, and what you mean to our family. Have the best day ever today❤️ by @arejay50

Do you remember my FB post last year when musician/satirist/mathematician Tom Lehrer passed away? OK, you probably don’t, but Barry Mardit did. In July of ‘25 I mentioned Lehrer’s classic (IMO) 1965 album “That Was The Year That Was” as the first album I ever bought, having heard a lot of Lehrer’s music on Dr. Demento each week on KMET/Los Angeles.
Well, last week Barry showed up at the Country Radio Hall of Fame dinner (Barry is a ‘22 inductee) and presented me with a pristine copy of this album - which I had lent a friend years ago but never got back. Sounds great as ever, thanks Barry! by @arejay50

Another incredible, emotional evening inducting seven new members into the Country Radio Hall of Fame last night (8/3). CRS is proud to oversee this institution, honoring radio pros who’ve made significant contributions to country radio and music. Saluting these icons and making it an unforgettable experience for inductees and attendees is a group effort and the CRS staff once again nailed it. I love this team: Chasity Moore Crouch, Ashley Bourque, Sheree Latham, and Brooke Sanders Gourley.
And of course, the CRHOF Class of 2026: Chris Carr, Rick Jackson, John Marks (Colleen Lelis), Philip Hunt Doyle, Michael J MJ, Bruce McCombs, and the incomparable Marci Braun.
What a night! As one of the inductees said during their acceptance remarks, “we live a charmed life.” Indeed we do. 🙏 by @arejay50

#tbt to CRS ‘26 back in March and hangin’ w/ Marci Braun - in about 2 weeks (Monday, 8/3!) Marci will be the youngest person ever inducted into the Country Radio Hall of Fame. I’m so excited for her - such a talented broadcaster, and a wonderful person, too! 🙏❤️ congrats again, Marci! by @arejay50

#tbt circa ‘91 or ‘92 w/ George King (l) and Alan Jackson during my KNIX/ Phoenix years. Posting this bc I was out of the country and unable to attend AJ’s final concert at Nissan Stadium in Nashville recently. I heard it was an incredible and emotional evening. I did see many AJ shows over the years, not only as a radio personality and programmer, but later, between 2009-2011 as an Arista promotion rep supporting his shows. Loved his live shows, all of his music, and being in this business following his Hall of Fame career from new artist to Country legend. 👍 by @arejay50
