Happy day of reading to unlearn the American creation myth of “Independence Day”! Here is a great resource.

The stories we tell make us who we are. What stories are you reading and sharing on this day, the 250th anniversary of our great American hypocrisy?

In his book “The Counterrevolution of 1776” the great people’s historian Dr. Gerald Horne shows us that the founding fathers and colonists revolted, in great part, to protect the practices of human bondage and white supremacy that their wealth was built upon.

Text with a header reading “Illuminates how the preservation of slavery was a motivating factor for the Revolutionary War” and text below that reads, “ The successful 1776 revolt against British rule in North America has been hailed almost universally as a great step forward for humanity. But the Africans then living in the colonies overwhelmingly sided with the British. In this trailblazing book, Gerald Horne shows that in the prelude to 1776, the abolition of slavery seemed all but inevitable in London, delighting Africans as much as it outraged slaveholders, and sparking the colonial revolt.”

Text reads, “Prior to 1776, anti-slavery sentiments were deepening throughout Britain and in the Caribbean, rebellious Africans were in revolt. For European colonists in America, the major threat to their security was a foreign invasion combined with an insurrection of the enslaved. It was a real and threatening possibility that London would impose abolition throughout the colonies—a possibility the founding fathers feared would bring slave rebellions to their shores. To forestall it, they went to war.”

“The so-called Revolutionary War, Horne writes, was in part a counter-revolution, a conservative movement that the founding fathers fought in order to preserve their right to enslave others. The Counter-Revolution of 1776 brings us to a radical new understanding of the traditional heroic creation myth of the United States.” taken in United States of America by @_phacelia

Happy Lunar New Year ♥️
Last year we had the privilege and honor of celebrating the new year with our beloved mentor and now ancestor Alice Wong. Here are some glimpses of one of the most magical weekends of our lives. Love you all.

1. Melica, Arenaria, Phacelia, and Alice smiling for a picture together in Alice’s living room in front of her legendary and magnificent fish tank. Alice is wearing red pants, a black blouse with white polka dots, red lipstick, and a pair of plush light blue foot supports. Her smile is calm and warm and knowing. Melica’s wearing one of her favorite soft teal knitted hats and purple fleece, grinning big. Phacelias wearing a black t shirt, light wash jeans, their at-the-time fav tiny daisy dangle earrings, and is standing next to Alice with their hands on their knees so their face is right next to Alice’s. They look so happy. Arenaria is standing on Alice’s left behind melica, wearing phacelias tan waffle shirt that by the way is his now, holding his pink mask in his hand embracing melicas arm, also smiling big.
2. Screenshot of the digital invitation card to Alice & Sandy Ho’s lunar new year party. Red card with a drawing of a golden snake with red back diamonds and a white underbelly. Card reads, “Please Join Us For A Feast of Good Fortune / Celebrating the Year of the Snake / Saturday February 1st at 6pm / Sandy Ho and Alice Wong”
3. Video Phacelia took in the SFO airport while watching Melicas plane arrive, the first and so far only time Melica’s flown solo to come visit Phacelia. Video zooms in on the jet bridge snugging up to the plane Melicas about to get off, then pans to phacelias face as they do a melica-inspired “happy run” through the airport in excitement. They look sleepy but hyped and are wearing a pink kn95.
4. Video by phacelia of melica being pushed up the jet bridge on a wheelchair by an airport attendant, grinning big, waving at phacelia waiting for her at the top of the ramp. She’s got a fuzzy blanket in her lap and her book. Phacelia is behind the camera excitedly low key yelling “yesssss! That’s my sisterrr!” taken in San Francisco, California by @_phacelia

Surgery update! Thank you all for your sweet messages, Melica has really, really loved hearing from friends all over 🥰♥️ Melicas surgery went well, however yesterday she started experiencing a (so far) not fully understood complication that has been causing high levels of unrelenting pain and discomfort. She could really use another wave of sweet messages and moral support- selfies of you with your pets, sharing a fond memory you’ve had together, etc! She’s low spoons and may not respond but every message is a boost!! You can DM her insta @melica.belle or dm me if you’d like her texting number. ✨

Also, if you’d like to pitch in a few bucks to get melica some new sensory fidgets to support her through this pain episode you can Venmo me @phaceliacramer and I’ll put your name on the card ♥️

Much love ♥️♥️♥️

Eugene friends read on!!!

We’ve never found an organization that loves and celebrates the Autistic community like Autism Rocks. Every year in late August, neurodivergent people from near and far come together near Florence for a four-day camping trip run by and for the Autistic community. Little kids and elders alike create art, swim, and enjoy performances by Autistic artists from all over oregon.

Volunteering at camp is an opportunity to join and nurture this space of belonging.

If you or your friends/family are thinking about volunteering, come to one of our information sessions:

2-4 pm on July 30 (Sunday) and
6-8 pm on August 1 (Tuesday)

at 25 Owosso Drive, Eugene, OR 97404

There will be snacks!
