What can a bird teach us about design?

The Hornero builds its nest using mud, grass, and whatever its environment provides. Its form is not arbitrary , every curve, material, and opening responds to a specific need.
It is a simple example of design through adaptation: understanding the material, reading the context, and creating with what is already available.
In a world where we often design first and adapt later, the Hornero suggests another approach:

What if we let nature design with us?

Inspired by Artemide’s vision of The Human Light, this lamp invites interaction. Its cork body becomes a personal surface where photos, notes, sketches, and reminders can live, transforming light into something deeply human.

Why these materials?

 Cork
• A natural tactile surface to pin memories, photos, and ideas.
• Lightweight, renewable, and sustainably sourced.
• Adds warmth, texture, and acoustic softness to the object.

Paper
• Softly diffuses light, creating a calm and intimate atmosphere.
• Lightweight and efficient with minimal material use.
• Highlights the contrast between fragility and warmth.

A lamp designed not only to light a space, but to tell your story. #productdesign #industrialdesign #lightingdesign #artemide by @argo.works
