What art does Dasha Zhukova collect?
Dasha Zhukova’s name sits behind one of the world’s most valuable private art collections.
She studied at UC Santa Barbara, then later earned a master’s degree from NYU.
In 2008, she co-founded the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow. That same year, she married Roman Abramovich.
That spring, he made headlines of his own - a $33.6 million Lucian Freud, then an $86.3 million Francis Bacon triptych, both auction records. It set the tone for what the couple would go on to build together.
Over the years, the collection grew. Picasso’s Le Jeune Toreador. Monet’s La Plage à Trouville. Further works by Degas, Matisse, Anselm Kiefer, and Paula Rego. More than 360 pieces in total, worth close to a billion dollars combined.
By 2022, the trust holding it all was restructured. Zhukova took the majority stake - 51 percent to Abramovich’s 49. She also sits on the boards of the Met, LACMA, and The Shed.
Dasha Zhukova now takes the legacy forward with a museum she co-founded and a seat at some of the art world’s most influential tables.
