How lucky am I, to have this stunning documentation by the brilliant @naelnacer? (Ok number 2 is by Sara Krulwich but still). The thing I will miss most: entering the stage door on 47th street, walking directly onto that stage, sitting at the piano and playing to a Broadway house, empty, except for my beautiful friends warming up their bodies next to me. It is a highlight of my life that Josh, David and @mtc_nyc let me keep coming back, to do what I love to do, with such a warm and loving group of artists. Not tagged but just as essential to these memorable months: Nancy Robinette, Aria Shaghasemi, Betsy Aidem, @ashleyrosegal @richard.hodge.908 @griggs9436 @joshua_zev @lady_lauriel @zaiquirii @placedale @loriwilner @johnemmettobrien @vollela and probably others. My beloved grandmother Selma Hillman passed away Tuesday morning, at the astounding age of 106. She was loved by so many of my friends. As one said, “She was everyone’s grandma.” She was steadfast in all things, not least in her sense of wonder and curiosity about the world. A soloist with the Fokine Ballet, a brilliant sculptor (pictured are some of her many pieces), painter, and pianist, she welcomed every day with a smile and an openness unmatched by anyone I’ve ever met. She’s always inspired me to do the same. My favorite more recent conversations with her concerned gender, sexuality, religion and the internet, and she approached these conversations with the sole purpose of learning. She cared deeply about humanity, and beauty. I will miss her forever. And I will be having a few Jack Daniel’s tonight in her honor (in a bubble glass) (on the rocks) (with a splash of Diet Coke) ❤️ by @aribrand
